CCAC drug test...please help!

Published

Hey everyone

I really need anyone's advice on this please. I am going into my 2nd year at CCAC allegheny campus and recently took my yearly drug test. Long story short, a few days before I took my test I had taken a Vicodin for a root canal I had just gotten fixed and it never even occurred to me it would test positive on my drug test. I know, I know not too intelligent but true. So a few days ago I got a bill from where I took my test and if definately came back positive. My question is what the heck can I do? I don't do drugs but feel as soon as they get my results I'm game over. I did have a rx for Vicodin but from almost a year ago that I still had some left, again bc I'm not a druggie. Please oh please any suggestions as to how I could even begin to handle this???

Thank you

This is probably not what you want to hear. We are 0 tolerance with + drug screens...unless there is a CURRENT rx. You can go into the IPN program? I believe they work with students too....

I hope someone has some better news for you.

Why didn't the dentist give you a new Rx for the work if it was going to cause pain?

I would call the testing center and tell them you have a prescription for the med and bring it to them. I would do something, that's for sure. If you have the bottle I would go right there with it and show them you are legally allowed to have them in your system. They should then change the result from + to - as you can have it in your system per doctors orders. Good luck

Yeah, is there a reason your dentist did not RE-prescribe the medication? Or was it a scenario where you took it upon yourself to treat the pain? Did he recommend it and you can get further documentation from your dentist?

Unfortunately, most schools & hospitals have zero tolerance for positive drug screens - because for them, they are going off a simple drug test. They have no way of knowing what the real explanation is...

You at least need to bring in your old prescription and explain the situation to your school and/or drug testing center. Hope you are able to figure something out!!

Yes, let me add a good luck!!!! Let us know what happens :)

Hey guys

Thank you all for responding even with game over news. So apparently I dug my own grave bc I was the reason he didn't give me a new rx. He did suggest it and was going to give me a new one but I told him I only used a few from the rx I already had and there was no need for a new one. I did actually call my dentist and explain everything to him and he was willing to do whatever he could to try to help me and said he would call anyone or write anything to whoever to explain the situation. I did go to the rn office today to try to see exactly what I should do and the secretary was pretty worthless and had no clue so I emailed XXXX XXXXX who I believe is the big wig rn on campus to tell me what my next step should be. I'll keep you posted...keep your fingers crossed for me!

Look at your copy of the drug screen. The MRO, or medical review officer, should be listed with name, address, and phone # on the upper right, assuming this was sent out to a lab and the service is included. That's who you should talk to.

Good luck!
