Hi Everyone, I just got my acceptance letter today for ccac/calu spring 2010! I thought that it would be a good idea to start a thread for CALU. So that all of us that got accepted can get aquainted since we will be classmates and we can use this thread to share information about CALU & the program..............I am looking forward to meeting everyone!!

Hi everyone! I got my packet too! (this is so exciting) Registration & ordering of uniforms & clinical bags will be on December 4th. I did email shannon to ask her what the clinical bag included. I have not heard from her yet. I did not ask her about the drug screening and where to get it, bcs I figured I would ask on the 4th. If you look at the drug screen it says Must be Submitted by december 18th but you can't take the test until DEC 11th.... If you take it too early they won't accept it................
I thought I read on another thread (maybe CCAC 09) that you could buy your stethoscope at the bookstore or on line. In fact it was suggested to "shop around" for those items. So, I am confused as well what this clinical/tote bag includes.
I am still waiting to hear from shannon on that, but I also heard that you get it at the bookstore. I stopped at the bookstore at south campus today, the manager said that we get our supplies including books from CALU but she did tell me each semester (at south) is different but that you get things that you need for lab & clinical one semester they included a stethoscope another semester they included a BP cuff. Personally I hope that it is a BP cuff instead of stethoscope unless it is a good one. (the ones at the bookstore are ok I guess they are cheap though) I want a littman. I talked with some nurses and they said especially in school when we are learning the sounds a mid range littman was the best not to get a cheap one........... There is also a thread in general nursing I think, about stethoscopes..... I am getting the impression that littman is the best no matter which one you get. I will let everyone know what shannon says.............Betty:D
whew... I have in basket for online a mid range littman, bp cuff, penlight and scissors total about 90 bucks including shipping. I guess I will wait to hear what is in the tote.
Looking over previous threads, the other item was dosage calculation seminar, I can't seem to find one at any of the campuses (yet). A few of the threads point to websites and a few others to books. I wish we had an idea of the book list. Wasn't there a post from boyce that stated books are about $700 and they has a list? My point, I'd buy a book now and get ready if I knew we were not getting one in the bundle.

I certainly hope the bag includes a stethoscope and a pen light at least because i just cancelled my order for those two things! Besides seriously, just a bag should NOT cost 85 dollars!!!! I want a Littmann too!!

there are alot of resources on this message board for drug calculations!!! I'm not purchasing anything else till i get verbatim instructions of what we need! :) We're already going to be spending a ton of money!
1. just got an email back from shannon at cal and she says:
uniform fitting and registration shouldn't take more than an hour or so depending on how many people are here when you arrive.
2.
3. you can go to any facility to get the drug screen done as long as it is an 11 point screening. southwest medical center in california is a good one. the number to schedule an appt is, 724-938-8161
4. the drug screening must be done on or before the 11th.

did you get where the attachment where cost effective screening can be accomplished? Any chance did you get the low cost clinics for the other stuff? I have heard Boyce and Allegheny was given a list of places that are low cost?
Lastly, anyone get when registration is? I got when the uniform fitting is... Funny getting my size is more important than getting my classes scheduled.
