Hi Everyone, I just got my acceptance letter today for ccac/calu spring 2010! I thought that it would be a good idea to start a thread for CALU. So that all of us that got accepted can get aquainted since we will be classmates and we can use this thread to share information about CALU & the program..............I am looking forward to meeting everyone!!:D

But do we have to apply to cal at all? Just for the nrn classes bcuz we are taking them there?

I was up at North today asking a bunch of questions about CALU, I got the deer in headlight look from more than one person. The one thing that stood out was they were very surprised we are going 4 days a week, no other campus is designed that way. The push back I got was it must be a CALU thing because they came to us for this program, we did not go to them.

I wish I had more information, but the head of the program is new and clueless (the dean).

the other comments is there are a lot of ticked off people who did not get in. They had a lot of well qualified candidates for the spring. With that, some campuses have more students than seats at this time (they over booked the program). It was hinted to me to make sure to be at the orientation, there may be some changes due to the overflow.

I don't think so, bcs we are still ccac students not calu students.... But you can send shannon wallace an email and ask her to be sure her email is:[email protected] look at it like when you are a ccac student there are different campuses that you can attend and for nursing calu is kind of like an extension of south campus bcs that is the campus that works with calu for the associates in nursing (and south campus nursing teachers teach the nursing at Calu) and there is also a program with south campus and calu to get your bsn after your associates is complete...................Betty

Well that all sounds interesting........... North campus may not have a lot of info with regards to calu bcs I think that calu and south campus work together... There is a calu office at the south campus and the nursing professors from south teach at calu. The calu agreement is with ccac overall but mostly I feel it is an extension of south campus..BTW tell your friend all I could find out was if there is space available you can switch from day/evening classes. Because allegeny campus was the most sought after I doubt that they can do anything for her. I had couple of classmates in A&P2 who chose allegheny 1st cal 2nd that did not get into allegheny. Another classmate only picked allegheny day or night and she did not get in........... I feel bad for those who did not make it but there is always fall. I am excited that I got in and my 1st choice too...........

for those who did not get in... rumor is they are changing the entrance requirements. I came in at the end of the conversation so I don't know all the details right now, but I plan on finding out tonight when my friend gets home.

thanks for finding that out about switching, the adivisor I talked with today said switching can be done, but it depends on the dean.

From what I learned, some people withdraw between now and Jan 1, then there are a handful that withdraw in the week leading up to class, then more in the 1st two weeks. She alluded that mid way a switch would be possible, but 8 weeks in why switch? (that is my opinion). I don't know if they backfill those that drop between now and day 1, she did not say but that would cool for those on the bubble to get a chance now and now have to wait until the fall.

Keep me posted as to wether or not the info packet comes in the mail tidY. I'm at work antisipating :(

I did not get anything today either, but I really was not expecting it until tmrw anyway. CALU is a little ways from all of us I figured that it would take a couple of days.

So im an idiot and accidently destroyed my letter at work. Luckily I did read it first! LOL Did it say anywhere on there that we need to bring our letter to orientation? :crying2:

Did you try to tape it?.........LOL Sorry I just had to chuckle ( I normally am the one that has accidents like that!) Don't stress it does not say to bring the letters. Don't be sad!!! We are nursing students now!!! We start school in January.......... Time is going to fly by with the holidays, before you know it we will be in nursing classes chuckling about everything that happened on our journey to get there!:D
