Is that a good thing or a bad thing?? :rotfl:

:p :p :p

Neither Casualty or Holby are realistic and while we are at it, thank goodness No Angels is starting its last series... but then ER and House are actually worse in terms of nursing realism. I mean last week on House, the man himself was caring for a patient who fell to the floor, turned to camera and said "Now this is why I invented nurses.... 'Clean-up on isle three'"!

At least in casualty and holby nurses do nursing jobs, such as starting IV's. They often get it wrong, but I love shouting at the telly, particularly in Holby, and telling them what they done wrong :)

How is ER for an idea of USA nursing?? That'll probably give you your answer!!

I also took a double take at House at that moment too! Have you seen Angels?? now there's a true to life nursing drama:lol2:

Steady! Leave No Angels out of this. To court a large slice of controversy, I believe it portrays nurses overall in a far more accurate light than any other TV series ever has - they get up to things that people in reality land get up to with storylines that are well written. The banter between the nurses and medical staff is funny, and, whilst there is a huge amount of exaggeration, it is well observed.

Of course, if you want a slice of the good old days when there were real Matrons and nurses swooned over doctors and were distinct second class citizens, The Royal starts soon.

Oooh Matron

Well the banter is certainly closer to reality than the docs running the roost. I remember my time living in the Nurses home well and all the things we got up to in and out of work. It was FUN FUN FUN all the way. Hands up who remembers as a student finishing placements and remembering to take a change of clothes into work on your last day because you knew for sure unless you slipped out quietly, that a terrible Bath was being made just for you by the staff nurses and auxillaries

I never used to make that quick quiet getaway there again none of the students did and the patients loved it

Leaving the ward 21st Century style:

1. Plan to put Nurse A in bath.

2. Carry out full Risk Assessment, completing several reams of paperwork with several copies of each to different people across hospital/Trust.

3. Ensure Nurse A signs disclaimer after being warned of the dangers of being put in bath and possible consequences of mild embarrassment (and ice cold water over testicles if you happen to be a man - been there ).

4. Ensure Nurse A is placed carefully on a hoist and not bandaged/sellotaped/tied to to it as this could constitute assault and/or a breach of Human Rights and the ensuing legal action could be costly for the individuals* and Trust**

*ensure the individuals are covered to at least £1m by Trade Union/Professional body

**check with Trust insurance/legal adviser

5. Check water temperature is appropriate (around about body temperature should be fine). No blocks of ice/jugs of freezing cold water to be tipped over nurse as this could cause hypothermia

6. Do not use any left over food to plaster over nurse as this could constitute theft or misuse of resources

After taking into account all of the above, decide not to put Nurse A in bath after all as she is the fifteenth nurse to leave in the last 3 months.
