Career options for LPN? Possible different career field?

Published

I am a LPN. I was in RN school but had to miss days due to sickness and am being terminated.

I'm looking for career options for LPN that maybe I'm not aware of.

I've done assisted living & private duty my whole career.

Other than this and nursing homes what other jobs and jobs that pay decent are open to us?

I'm thinking of getting out of being a LPN all together. If I do this what would be some careers that would be easier to transfer into? I'm willing to go to school.

Specializes in sub acute, ltc, mental health/addiction.

I guess if your considering out of LPN field then you need to think about what you want to do and can do. Personally I dont understand going through all this training and throwing it out the window. Your license is what you make it. Ive worked LTC, Acute care, management/supervisory and now work for VA Health Care system. So really you can do just about anything if your committed to the work/license you have.

Specializes in Allergy/ENT, Occ Health, LTC/Skilled.

I have been an allergy nurse at an ENT clinic, Occ health LPN, and LTC. My biggest stint was in Occ health, I really liked it and plan on going back when I graduate with my RN in 18 months. I was paid well and since it's a smaller, speciailzed field, you get paid more than regular clinics. I am actually one of not many LPNs in my area that have occ health experience so I can pretty much hand pick my positions.

This is going to sound dumb but what does occ stand for?

Occupational health.

Specializes in Peds acute, critical care, Urgent Care.

I have already worked as an LPN in a TBI peds acute facility, and now I work in Urgent/Critical care. Get to see all the fun stuff, have participated in my fair share of codes, use my IV skills at least 100 times a day, I can triage with the best of em' and even get to do CPR. Just gotta look what's out there

I can also tell you as an LPN with critical care experience, great IV skills and I know how to work and read a vent and an EKG machine, I have quite a comfortable salary and can work anywhere I want, recruiters come to me, and I have 3 years experience.:)

My first job...( high/jr School) health office. They have an RN but she only does screenings, so im full time M-F 8/4pm. Weekends off, summers off, and holidays.

I'm an LPN, but do not like the "hands on" stuff. I love A&P and medical terminology though, so I am taking classes to be a medical coder! :D I will be done this spring and plan to sit for the CPC soon after. Hope to get a remote coding job from home some day... Makes me feel like my LPN wasn't a waste... good luck in whatever you do!

Specializes in VA, Ortho, Med/Surg.

God bless you for loving A&P. God help me, I just can't recall info anymore. I am 50. Just so much to memorize and I don't care to work as an LPN or be a pill pusher with no patient contact but home care is too isolating for me so looking into something new to do.
