CANDO program and jobs in AZ

Published

Hi everyone,

I recently joined the CANDO program in AZ for alcoholism and am just about to start applying for jobs. Does anyone have any insight about which places (ie Banner, HonorHealth, Mayo, Abrazo) are fairly open to hiring nurses who are in the CANDO program?

Waited until the interview. Just a heads up, you may recieve job offers from the interveiwer, then leave the interveiw all excited but then, after checking with HR, the interveiwer rescinds the offer. That happend to me twice.

Looking for advice on whether it's better to bring up being on the CANDO during an interview or put a brief explanation on a cover letter for full transparency.

"Med/surg nurse with 10 yrs experience seeking core employment. Returning from 2 years of travel nursing. Previously 8 years with same hospital. Successfully participating in the CANDO program with no restrictions on my practice due to failed pre-employment drug screen between assignments, no issues with on the job performance. Making healthy choices and growing as a person and a nurse. I can provide a reference letter from my most recent manager who has worked with me in multiple capacities over several years."

HR...ugh. yeah, I was actually employed until HR got wind I was on CANDO (manager already knew and was fine with because she's know n me for years. HR mad the decision to terminate despite my manager wanting to keep me. no performance issue.
