CANDO program and jobs in AZ

Published

Hi everyone,

I recently joined the CANDO program in AZ for alcoholism and am just about to start applying for jobs. Does anyone have any insight about which places (ie Banner, HonorHealth, Mayo, Abrazo) are fairly open to hiring nurses who are in the CANDO program?

I do. What would you like to know

Thank you so much for responding, Biosphere.

I was curious if certain hospitals are more open to hiring a nurse who is currently in the CANDO program, or if there are departments in hospitals that have a tendency to hire CANDO nurses. I'm also very nervous to interview because I am not sure when during the interview and how to mention that I am in the CANDO program. Any suggestions?

I know for a fact that the John C Lincoln hospitals, and the abrazo hospitals are CANDO friendly. The Banners not so much.

if you don't have any restrictions on your license , I feel it's realitively easy to land a job in one of those spots. You have to sell yourself first. And if they call you back for hiring, then you can disclose everything to the hiring manager. Once they have decide they like you it is much easier and it's all about timing. I can tell you exactly what to tell them. I have acquired several jobs that way some of which I ended up declining. I have had no problems for the most part.

I cannot tell you how much you've made my day, Biosphere. I had a feeling that Banner might be a little on the difficult side, but that is wonderful to know that both Abrazo and John C Lincoln (or I guess they're part of HonorHealth now) are accepting of nurses in CANDO. So after they reach out to you regarding a job offer, that would be the best time to disclose that you are in CANDO? Would it be okay if I messaged you to maybe get some more ideas about what exactly to say? I figured when the time comes I could talk about how being in the program has helped me and that it has made me not just a better person but a better nurse as well. Do you usually disclose this information to the HR person who calls to tell you about the job offer, or should you contact the manager directly about it? I've had two jobs- the first one they had the HR person contact me and offer the job, the second one I was offered on the spot after a peer interview... Not sure how other places do things. Thanks again for all of your help!

Sure you can message me. I am always honest with them but the words you use are crucial. They are really aware of these issue anyway unlike HR.

So its been a year since your original post. Can or will you update your status and how things are going in the CANDO program?

I am new to CANDO and need advice on how to disclose I am in the program. I'd greatly appreciate if anyone could help.

I am a CANDO graduate. I completed five years of CANDO and have been off CANDO a year. I lead a happy and very healthy life full of gratitude. I am happy to help I any way.

So why a 5 year program? I thought Arizona was 3.... Did you get a hospital job right away? What hospitals are CANDO friendly? Are there some places that are more inclined to hire a nurse in CANDO then others?? Any information that would be helpful I would appreciate... maybe answer things that would have been helpful for you if someone had only told you to begin with. Any information is greatly appreciated. I know I struggle with this daily even though it's been 7 months. You are welcome to PM me if you prefer that. Thank you in advance for your help ....

I am REALLY interested in what you say to them. I am new to the program and currently looking for a job.

New to the cando program - any advice on how to disclose to future employer? I am currently in the process of applying and interviewing and am at a loss for how to let them know. Thanks!
