CANDO program and jobs in AZ

Published

Hi everyone,

I recently joined the CANDO program in AZ for alcoholism and am just about to start applying for jobs. Does anyone have any insight about which places (ie Banner, HonorHealth, Mayo, Abrazo) are fairly open to hiring nurses who are in the CANDO program?

Riser1,

did you find a job? I go tomorrow for my interview for entry into Cando. do you, or anyone, have any tips or suggestions?

Hello all. I am not new to this site, but just created an account. Unfortunately my addiction has led me into the CANDO program with the AZ BON. I have been clean and sober for a while now, and following everything to a "T" in regards to the CANDO requirements. Thank the Lord, I received my work release, but now as many nurses in my position have been in..I am struggling looking for a job. I understand Biosphere has been very helpful and has given recommendations, but I am willing to take ANY and ALL recommendations to get back into the field I miss very much...Please any help is appreciated. Thank you all.

Any luck finding a job? If so, please any advice or recommendations would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Rasam, any luck with employment? Please let me know.

I can help with jobs , my network is pretty diverse

Hi Bio. Thank you very much for you reply. If there's anything you can assist me with or can point me in the right direction, it would greatly appreciated. It's a very stressful situation as you can imagine, but taking it one day at a time. Please let me know! I have resumes at the ready.

RNRecovered, I don't know where you are at with your recovery or the CANDO process but this is for you if you need it but also for anyone else in the beginning of this process. It was the most scared I have ever been as I started to face my addiction. It is by far the best thing I have ever done though. I am just a few months into this process and I have had multiple job offers. I'm currently just waiting for my start date to arrive to begin working. I've found that Banner isn't really CANDO friendly though. I'm being very selective with where I work because I'm not going to threaten my sobriety. Jump into your recovery head first and completely. Good things will start happening. There are a lot of hoops to jump through but as I look back they are all put there to keep me safe. I am very thankful for CANDO and all the CANDO nurses I've met along the way. YOU WILL COME OUT OF THIS BETTER AND STRONGER.

Hi Rasam. Thank you and it's good to hear that you are receiving job offers. Are there any places you could recommend that are hiring nurses in our position? Also any tips with the interview and hiring process would be MOST welcome. If there's anyway we can communicate about this, please let me know. I know it is a lot to ask, so if you have time, please let me know. Thank you! And Congratulations.

Good morning to all you AZ CANDO nurses.

I live in TX and currently do not have an active license but had AZ license revoked in 2003 for failing CANDO. I have now been clean & sober 12 years, 11 months, and 3 days. I applied for reissuance in July 2017, from AZ.

I am still waiting and have not heard anything from the board.

I sent the application, letters from current (7 year long) job supervisor, sponsor, proof of rehab, letter from previous counselor, AA attendance sheets. Basically, the works.

My question for you AZ nurses, any ideas about my chances or how long it will take for any response? If they grant, am I still looking at rehab? 3 years, 5 years?

Any info would be appreciated.

Newly on CANDO in AZ. Only restriction I have is can't work more than 40/week. No other conditions for working. I need advice on CANDO friendly hospitals. All my experience is in large urban hospitals and I want to be able to keep those skills up through the program. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Captkool.

I'm sorry you have to go through this. It's tough with a lot of hoops to jump through; but totally worth it if sobriety is your goal.

Without exaggeration, I went through 127 interviews before I landed a job after starting CANDO/ATD. I have found that psych hospitals and dialysis are usually friendly. Most big BANNER, ABRAZO, DIGNITY, or HONOR weren't willing to hire me. I have heard that honor heath is CANDO friendly but I haven't seen anyone working for them who's in the program. I'm an open book if you have questions.

did you do a cover letter with CANDO on it or did you wait til interview to explain?
