Canadian RPN to US RN

Hi there everybody! just a query, I'm an RPN here in Ontario and I want to move in the Texas US to be an RN there. What requirements do I need to obtain? Thank you :)

You would need to meet the RN requirements for the state. If you have not completed your registered nurse training then you can't meet Texas state requirements. Are you a Registered Psychiatric Nurse or a Registered Practical Nurse

yes i am a registered practical nurse. I've tried to email texas board of nursing but they didn't reply.

I believe the equivalent of an Registered Practical Nurse in Canada is an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) in the US. The RN equivalent in Canada is also an RN in the US, so I don't believe you've met the education requirements if you identify yourself as an RPN.

Someone I went to school with as an RPN challenged the RN exam in the US and was the equivalent of an ADN there I believe.. although I annoy positive, and am unsure of which state she went to .

You need to contact the Texas BON. They will be able to answer your questions.

You will not know the answer until you make your application to the Texas BON. They will evaluate your credentials and make their decision.

Wow, I find that surprising. I thought that RPN was the equivalent of LPN here in the US. And when I got my credentials transferred, they told me I have the equivalent of the ADN, but I most definitely was already a RN to begin with. Please update us, would be good to hear if this is actually the case.

Hi. Im planning to take a bridging course in the us. RPN to RN? do they offer program like that?

The PN education is now the old RN diploma course. Two + years up here opposed to the 9-13 months in the US for the practical nurse.

I think most of the bridging programs are online so you may even be able to do it whilst still in Canada. Main issue if planning on coming back to Canada is that the course meets college requirements

Hello I know this is an old thread but I want know which state told you that its equivalent of the RN, Because I am planning to move to Minnesota and I am garduating soon from RPN school and I want to move down to the USA because I am getting married. Pls need help
