Canadian RN writing NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey everyone,

I am a recent graduate in Canada - successful on the CRNE back in June. I have been working surgical, and more recently cardiology/telemetry and casually in long term care.

I have applied thru MN for licensure and to write my NCLEX - slightly nervous though as I have heard horror stories of some people writing this exam, haha. I am trying to maintain a positive mantra, however.

I bought the Mosby's Prep so far to study, but I am looking for any other advice from people who have wrote it and so forth.

Also, any other recent Canadian grads writing the NCLEX anytime soon!?

Thanks all!

Yes she has the exam for CRNE scheduled for already and we are wonderin if we could do NCLEX as soon as possible after she writes the exam. We just would like to know the steps as to how we could register for it and what forms or registration we need to do in order to have that ATT for the NCLEX

thanks for the reply!

you will browse through the website of the board of registered nursing on the state you wish to take...you can see their the requirement, processing and appropriate fees for the exam or your eligibility to take for NCLEX... then when the board of registered nursing replied that you are already given permission to take the test, you will then register and schedule your exam on http://www.pearsonvue.com to get your ATT...

Process can take anything from 2-6 months depending on state and meeting requirements. More than likely require license verification so will have to wait at least 6 weeks ish to get CRNE results and pay fees before a license will be issued. All forms are on the state BON website and she may need to meet requirements for Foreign trained (some accept Canadian trained separately)

Is there anyone on here that recently graduated and has taken the NCLEX? (2011?) I just bought the book.. I'm studying for the CRNE and I've been doing a few hours every day (I'm using Mosby's for that).. I plan on writing the NCLEX in August. I bought Saunders for my NCLEX - wanted to know what the huge differences was in the NCLEX?

I would say I have pretty good study habits and would say that I did pretty well in school (given I studied all the time..). I see people say they studied for a couple of weeks and then wrote the exam, I feel like I need a month and a half!

Hi Everyone!

I am graduating this June from a nursing program in Ontario and would like to write the NCLEX prior to the CRNE. I would like to apply in California for licensure, so assume that I need to write the NCLEX there as well. I am totally lost as to the process. Can anyone guide me through this? I am getting married and moving to the States on a K1 fiancee visa at the end of June. I see questions about a social security number, which I obviously don't have.

Any help would be greatly appeciated! How did everyone else (all other Canadians) apply to write the NCLEX?

Thanks!

You can get a SSN within 10-14 days after being here. I also came to the US with a K1 visa but i am from Germany

I am from Newfoundland, I am a RN at the Janeway Children's Hospital in the ER right now. I am moving to Houston, Texas where my boyfriend is now. I am hoping to continue to be with children but we will see what the road brings. I am excited to move and I love the weather here. All the best to you on your exam.

La Charity is a great book, it gives you priority questions which I had a lot of on my exam. Also NCLEX 4000 gives you the different styles of NCLEX questions which I found good.

Have you moved to Texas yet? If so, what hospital are you working at and are you enjoying it? I"m looking to move in the next 6 months so any information would be much appreciated.

Yes I have been in Texas for 2.5 years now. I am working in a children's hospital and I love it. It is different then in Canada where I am from. Message me any questions you would like to ask.

I tried to message but I don't have enough posts to have that privilege. A little background...I graduated from University in June 2010. I have a Visa & passed the NCLEX, licensed in Minnesota. I worked medicine for a short time then moved to the OR for 5 months and didn't like it so I moved to Cardiology/CCU and have been there for just over 2yrs and love it. Busy and interesting. I'm looking to stay in Cardiology, preferably CCU (Coronary Care Unit; 1-2 acute patients) What are the job opportunities like for a Canadian? Would it be difficult to get into an ICU program? How are the people? If you could do it over again, what advise would you give? Hope your having a nice evening.

Thank-you

What were some of the biggest obstacles to over come?

I have started to look at Memorial Hermann and St.Lukes. I have ACLS, PALS, TNCC and Canadian aeromedial flight certificate and Coronary Care Unit training. My main reason for relocating is to try something different. I really want to move into the ICU as well. I have given thought to completing the ICU program up here first then move down...any thoughts? How hard is it to get into the ICU program?

Thank-you for all your help, much appreciated!

P.S I would have send a PM but it won't let me yet...:(

Thank-you for all your help, much appreciated!!
