Canadian RN licence in different provinces

Each province will make their own determination based on your application you submit, if you have Canadian nursing experience they may take it into consideration so you do not have to do some form of assessment but there again it may not be taken into consideration and you still have to do the assessment. Going to a province that does not do assessment with plans to apply elsewhere doesn't mean it will be easier and costs.

You can apply to every province and territory if that's your desire. It's kind of expensive in the long run.

A better question is where do you want to live and work? Nova Scotia is a very different place to live than Alberta or even Saskatchewan.

What SD is trying to tell you is that even if you register and work in NS and stay there a couple of years, when you apply to move to AB or SK or anywhere else, you application will still be looked at as an IEN and you will need to meet the new provinces educational standards because you were educated outside of Canada. Your work experience in NS will be useful and you'd be able to port your hours wage wise.

My case is somehow similar. The only difference is I already took and passed the CRNE.

I am a permanent resident and got my RN license from Ontario. However, I am contemplating of moving to Alberta or Manitoba. So I recently got in touch with CARNA and CRNM to inquire on how to go about with license endorsement from another province. Both nursing boards told me that my application will be treated similar to applicants applying from Canada since I am already licensed from another province. Both did not require me to submit a TOR from my university overseas. However, both required me to submit evidence of recency of practice coming from my current employer. In addition, CARNA still required me to submit result of my IELTS exam (which I fortunately still have) whilst CRNM said it is no longer needed.

Hi CaribbRN nice to hear from u:yeah:,can u plz tell me that for RN license endorsement to Alberta,did CARNA required u to submit verification of registration from all places where were u registered in past?plus verification of employments from all places where u worked? did they asked u for SEC?Are u able to endorse ur RN license to alberta from ontarioo,as soon as u get it.

By the way plz tell me that,for registration to Ontario,CNO asked u for any SEC?can I apply for registration to CNO, when still I'm outside of canada? coz I'm not able to know how to meet their requirement of providing proof of PR/Landed immigration status? I applied for PR in Nov.2010 & recieved AOR from CIC.

Yes, you have to submit a license verification from all countries where you have been registered as an RN. That means you'll get one from India and the US. But it would be wise if you email CNO and request for application packet first so you'd know exactly what types of document you need to submit and when you will have to submit it.

If your application is complete and CNO will not ask you to provide additional documents to support your application, the whole assessment process can be finished in 3 months. However, that is not always the case for IEN's as more often than not, additional requirements are needed from them. Mine took 8 months to complete.

Holding a US license has no bearing n your application and I wouldn't be able to say if you will be made eligible as only CNO can decide on that.

Just wondering though, why not just take the CRNE since you got your approval already from Nova Scotia and just apply for license endorsement to the province where you wanna work and settle later on?

to jazz1983: Are you here in Canada already? How did your application went?

to CarribRN: Where are you registered now? Did you choose Manitoba or Alberta?

I am thinking about what you did. You took had an assessment from CNO and took crne then asked for out of province registration to Manitoba or Alberta.

I submitted an application to CRNBC and told me to take SEC. I already took it and I am still waiting for the results. If ever CRNBC tells me to take a one year full time refresher course, I don't know what will I do then because I can't study again for one year full time refresher course because of my situation.

I am thinking of submitting an application to Saskatchewan and ask CRNBC to forward the results of my assessment and SEC to SK. Not any particular reason for Saskatchewan but I think jobs for RN are more plentiful there than here in BC. I hear a lot of IENs in BC who can't get a job here even though they already passed the CRNE.

There's no guarantee that Saskatchewan will accept CRNBC's assessment, although they might. You may find that you'll still have to provide all the same documentation and undergo a SEC even though you've already done that in BC. Canada is still a ways away from having a seamless national system for registration assessment and verification.

Saskatchewan has pretty much filled their vacancies now. The jobs that remain unfilled are the highly-specialized ones or the ones in extremely remote communities. So while SRNA might register you, finding work might not be so easy.
