UFV September 2017 Applicants

World Canada CA Programs

Hey Everyone :o)

I thought that I would start a September 2017 intake thread. It is a bit early compared to other threads, but we can chat as we prepare for the deadline. What applicants are applying with and chat about the program or anxiety.

Ughh I hope they lower the GPA cut off, I had a 3.67 too :(

I just received an e-mail saying I wasn't accepted :(

@Prmtm but your grades were high! Did you potentially not have enough volunteer hours?

I was so confused and went through a million different emotions for about an hour after receiving that e-mail, but thankfully I called Health Studies and it turns out that some of my upgraded courses never went through to them when they reviewed my application! Now they will be re-reviewing my application and sending me another e-mail soon!

She said that everyone who has a 3.75 GPA or higher is guaranteed an invite to the info session, so now I'm just patiently waiting for the info session invite.

Talk about an emotional roller-coaster

I have already received an email today that I was not accepted. I have 2A & 2B, over 140 volunteer hours, many reference letters, post college & diploma, excellent transcripts, previous 3 years work in hospitals for Laboratory as well as working with doctors & RN's and still did not even get an info or interview for the second time. I am not applying for a third as this is completely ridiculous. I can not keep re-doing the same courses in attempt to achieve an A. I have been told by advisers that there is now an extensive waiting list for the program and everyone needs all A's, min is 3 A's & 1 B, without that NO ONE else gets even looked at. UFV keeps promoting the program with high school students yet they can not even keep up the the # of applicants. I am a mature student who works full time, completing all of my upgrading at the same time with family, house and planning to stay and work here in the Fraser Valley and unfortunately can not get accepted at my local university (only 3 blocks away) for nursing to stay and work locally.

I am applying else were having to study & drive long distance to continue to attempt my career goals hopefully before I get (tooo old. haha).

With UFV's long waiting list, don't count on getting in for at least 2 years.

Congrats to everyone who did get in and or invites & good luck!

Cheers

I also received an email today that I was not accepted. I applied with 3A's and 1 B with over four years of volunteer experience. I thought that the GPA cutoff was 3.75 with which I am well above. Specifically, I had 98% in Chemistry, 94% in PreCalc 11, 92% Biology and 79% in English. I don't understand. They must have made a mistake. Anyways, I emailed them back to check if they had the most recent transcript as I did upgrade one of those courses. Hopefully they will reply and reconsider my application.

I had 86% Chem 11, 90% Bio 12, 84% Math 12 (accepted), 75%English 12, B Anatomy & physiology, B English 105, Certified medical laboratory technician provincially & nationally with 86% course grade, ECG interpretation certificate, histology, microbiology training. I have achieved all of this in my adult life (35-40) + worked and supported my family (except Med lab it was full time 1yr., 2011)

Absolutely can not say why I didn't get accepted x 2 other than every one needs min. 3 A's +.

@km2014 you seem like you have a lot of post secondary experience and health care experience; you should definitely try applying to BCIT if you have the prerequisites! I've heard they look for candidates that have the type of experience that you have. I'm sorry you didn't get into your dream school, but don't give up hope! You'll definitely get in somewhere with all of your experience! Wish you all the best, and good luck!

@jayron20 hopefully there was just a mix-up with your upgraded marks transferring over! That's what happened to me. If you have higher than a 3.75 GPA, you should have been invited to the info session! Your grades and volunteer are really good, so hopefully it was just a mistake. Maybe try calling the Health Studies department on Monday to find out for sure; it's way more stress-relieving to just call and receive an answer right away than wait for an e-mail response! Good luck

Did anybody receive an info session and a interview email already? I was reading the previous years forums and sometimes they sent both the interview and info session invites at the same time

My GPA was only 3.65 I got a invite I'm so confused.

@Jsandhu12 when did you receive an invite?
