Can you work full time and go to rn school???

Published

:uhoh21: Hello, I have 2 kids and have heard it is impossible to go to RN school and work part-full time. Is this true? I need to work because of the benifits and I am not completely sure if we can suvive without some of my income. In order for me to keep benifits I think the min. I can work is 32 hrs a week. I am starting my req for the program in aug. so I have about 1 year before I apply. Also has anyone heard of a evening/weekend schedule course? This is also another reason why I don't want to resign, I work for Kaiser here in CA........ It might be easier to get a job at this hosp. Info please? Thanks

We have a evening/weekend program here, but when I apply I'm taking advantage of a program here at work (I work for a hospital) where I can go to school and work part time but still retain my full time benefits and salary. It's a huge benefit and was put into place to fill the nursing shortage. When I graduate I will work as a nurse for the hospital for a year as a payback.

My brother worked full-time while getting his nursing degree. He is now a FT RN in NYC.

For me, I will continue to work FT while attending nursing school. VERY FEW states have a nursing school with evenings/weekends. I am blessed because my school does! :yeah:

It won't be easy, but I am the sole income so there is no other option! You won't have a life and your kids need to understand what you are doing and why. Once they see how hard mommy (or daddy for that matter) are studying, they will learn the benefits of hard work.

OT: Soft constructive criticism here..... benEfits not benIfits. Spelling will be very important in getting your degree. You might want to brush up a bit! :D I normally expect typos....heck, I make a few myself. I only mentioned this because you misspelled it twice.

Absolutely, you can! I went to nursing school full time, worked part time nights as a CNA, and worked part time days at a bank. And I made it through nursing school with good grades. You can do it! It's not easy, and I have no idea when I actually slept, but somehow I made it.

I go to school from about 7 AM to 2 PM and work from 3 to Midnight, comute 1 hour, get home at 1 am wake at around 5, 530AM and do it all over again!

4.0 GPA...

thank God for caffeine, motivation, and my love for nursing... that is what keeps me going...

ps... even when i am tired i look so forward to study!!! (i don't know what happend to me, i used to be a 3.0 kinda guy on my business BA... but have kept a 4.0 through this whole thing!)

The love in nursing keeps me going!

Only if I were bionic.
