  1. The hospital I work at requires a minimum BSN with 5 years clinical experience. I, too, landed the first CM job I applied for. I started in January and Love it!!
  2. I just started as a new case manager on an ortho floor in an acute care facility. We have a UM person that sees the private insurance patients, and I deal with the Medicare pts, self pays, and VA pts. We have a SW that also helps out and helps with facilitating the transfers to nursing homes and rehab centers. My floor has 26 beds, but I think the average pt load is more like 20. I had 23 Friday, but only 17 today.
  3. I'm confused. Some people have said that they can write you up for using sick days. ???? If the company gives you 10 sick days a year (or whatever the #), why are you penalized for using them???? That makes no sense. Everyone gets sick, and why give employees sick days if you get in trouble for using them? Isn't that what they are for?? 3 or 4 sick days in a year is not at all excessive! That is ridiculous IMO.
  4. Absolutely, you can! I went to nursing school full time, worked part time nights as a CNA, and worked part time days at a bank. And I made it through nursing school with good grades. You can do it! It's not easy, and I have no idea when I actually slept, but somehow I made it.
  5. I always thought I wanted to be a nurse. But about a year into nursing school, I started having second thoughts. I did very well, that was not the problem. I still wasn't sure I wanted to be a nurse when I graduated. I got a job, which I liked, but didn't love. I went back to get my BSN, graduated with a 3.92 GPA, got another job in clinical management that I loved. I had to quit that job because I had my kids just 17 months apart and my husband travelled a lot. I haven't always LOVED nursing, but I am good at it, and it is what my degree is in. So I do it, and I do it well with a good attitude. I would suggest you continue on and get your RN, and maybe use your degree to do something other than typical bedside nursing. You don't have to LOVE nursing, but I do think it is something that you have to have a good attitude about. Attitudes are contagious (good or bad) and your patients deserve a nurse with a good attitude! Good luck to you!
  6. Good luck! I think I am the one you are referring to when you talk about the person who got the 2nd interview. :) My second interview was yesterday, and I think I did OK, but who knows? There are 2 of us interviewing at the Director level, and the other person isn't interviewing until Friday. Maybe we'll both know something by next week, in time for Christmas? :) Good luck, I know the waiting stinks. Kristin
  7. I got a call back yesterday and they said they loved me and that I passed with flying colors, so I go back for a 2nd interview with the Director on Tuesday. :) Yeah!
  8. I am an RN, BSN and have been for 11 years, with experience in Home health (both in the field and in clinical management, med surg, and GI/endoscopy. I took 2 years off to be home with my kids, but am ready to go back to work now. I actually applied for a position as a home care coordinator and had an interview scheduled today for that, but they called me yesterday and said they have 2 internal candidates that are interested and will likely get the job, so they suggested I interview for their ortho case manager position. (This is in a large hospital). I was not sure about it, and not sure I am qualified, but the manager insisted I am qualified and encouraged me to interview. So, I went today for the interview and am not sure what to think. I already had been through a phone interview, and this was a panel interview with the department manager, 2 RN case managers, and the Home Care Coordinator. I spent a week preparing for this interview, but they did not ask me anything other than "tell us about yourself", and "what home health agency did you work for" and "Did you deal with insurance companies?". They basically told me about the job, what they do, when they work, where they work. It was not much of an interview and I don't really know what to think. They asked me if I had any questions, which I did, so I asked them my list of questions. Then, when I could tell it was almost over, I decided I had better start selling myself since they were not going to ask me a question that I thought was going to help, so I told them how hard working and quick to learn I am, and how I am a perfectionist/detail oriented, excited about a new challenge, etc. They said they were finishing the other interviews this week (3 or 4 other candidates I believe) and they would make their decision next week. ???? They seemed to like me, they seemed personable, approachable, etc. Any thoughts??
