I have worked the floor for 24 years and would like to change to either DON, MDS or ADON. can any one give me some hints on how I can do this. I really would appreciate any help.
I guess it would depend on what area you are in... Chicago area always has ads looking for ADON & DON... The money was good, but definitely NOT worth the headache... I took a 20,000 yr pay cut to be happier, working the floor, with MUCH less stress & only have half the BS that I did in management....

I have worked as an MDS coordinator for 4 years. I really "lucked" into the job when the department needed help. My advice would be to take courses for MDS coordinator. This gives you a good basis of the knowledge of the MDS and the credentials are impressive. AANAC offers program and so does NASPAC.
I know that my options are limited with an ADN, but i know nurses with the same degree working in these capacities. I am willing to do what ever I need to but first I need to know where to start. Since I have experience will that subsitute for the BSN. I know that the government does that. Finances are limited so I need a direct way of getting there

You already have plenty of experience to be an MDS Coordinator. I would call around to all the LTC facilities in my area and inquire about the need for a MDS Coordinator and those needing one I would send my resume. I am an MDS Coordinator and I have found that many facilities are in need of good MDS Coordinators and would grab you up in a minute. I don't think you will have any problems getting a job in LTC for the position that you inquired about MDS Coordinator, ADON, or DON. Goodluck
