can nurses remove a needle from mediport?

does anyone here know if nurses can remove a needle from mediport? is it within scope of nursing practice? i know nurses cannot remove central line but only doctors can.

I've been a MI nurse for 29 years. I live and work in WI now. Access and remove from a Mediport - that's where I learned how to do it. It is, of course, a procedure that requires orientation. Removing central lines, yes. Aides removing central lines? I don't think I would agree to that. (I'm old school though).

I couldn't agree with an aide DC'ing a Central line. :uhoh21: I don't know many nurses who'd put their license on the line for something like that. After all, what kind of intervention can an aide do if something goes horribly wrong?

In GA, nurses can D/C central lines on the floor also. I guess it just depends on the facility.

Huh? At our hospital we can d/c central lines and of course acess, deaccess mediports. Heck, our aids can D/C central lines.

Aides d'cing central lines? *clears throat* What state is this exactly?
