Can I get opinions on this $$ hourly rate?

I make $40 hr doing Geri psych nursing home residents, mostly med mgmt. Been with this co a little over a year. I am pt only about 8-10 hrs a week.

I get paid for my billing. Not how many hours I am there. Certain codes are worth a certain amount of units which translate into time, 30 min 1 hour 1 1/2 hour etc

I am in the northeast, and wonder if $40 an hr is common or if I should be at a higher rate? I feel like I should be closer to $50 an hr.... Any thoughts?

I'm in the south. Most new grads start out around 40.00 and after 6 months to 1 year are more around $45.00-50.00 an hour. Hope that helps!

thank you for your reply

I have about 5 years experience. Have had my NP for longer but took time off here and there,

I feel like when I accepted this position last year I should have asked for a higher rate.:crying2:

anyone have any opinions on how to request a higher rate, my boss is doing my 1 year evaluation right now, so when I see her for that I am not expecting a bump in my rate, but I feel as if I want to ask, but have never had to in the past and don't know how to approach the subject.

help!!

One of the reasons men make more than women for the same job is that men will be asking for a raise all the time while women tend to think that they will be noticed and rewarded for their performance. Just ask. You have a 50/50 chance...pretty good odds!

Depends on which state in the Northeast. That PT rate would be somewhat common for new grads with no experience in my state (I am in a lower-paying NE state for NPs); however, you state you have 5 years experience - I would think you should be making more than that based on that alone!

You might make $30-32/hour here, with experience. Top NP salary I have heard here is 70K a year with 10+ years experience, no benefits.

$30per hour??? For a NP?? I make that as a bedside nurse . That pay is disheartening if for a Np.

My friends husband is an NP and only makes $35/hr with no benefits. We live in central PA.... so not unheard of here, more like the norm.

New grads 17-18/h. I am the highest paid RN in my hospital, maxed out the pay scale and having a jots of additional certifications. I make $26.45/h. I was offered my managers job a few years ago, and the pay was less. When she is being difficult, i just remember that im earn more than she does for putting up with me. ;-) We haven't had a raise here in 3-4 years. We are told every year we will get a COLA raise if, and only if, the hospital meets financial goals. Guess what, we never do and I suspect never will. I went to NP school b/c my back is killing me and I can't do 12hour shifts anymore. I always knew I wouldn't make much more money. I don't really care about the money part. I'm just want a professional life separate from being a wife and mom, and to earn some of my own money. 65-70k is the very best I'd ever do here. I figure I'm saving myself from a real back related disability, which is priceless!

in the Chicago/ midwest area NP hopes to make 80,000 per year, have a friend who works THursdays in an office and makes 50/h for a guranteed 5 hours. SHe is guaranteed 250 per day no matter how many hours she works. so if they only schedule pts for 3 hours she still gets her $250. Of course no benefits.
