I make $40 hr doing Geri psych nursing home residents, mostly med mgmt. Been with this co a little over a year. I am pt only about 8-10 hrs a week.
I get paid for my billing. Not how many hours I am there. Certain codes are worth a certain amount of units which translate into time, 30 min 1 hour 1 1/2 hour etc
I am in the northeast, and wonder if $40 an hr is common or if I should be at a higher rate? I feel like I should be closer to $50 an hr.... Any thoughts?
DC area. It's not difficult for an experienced RN to make in the $30's. Even new grads start out at $25/hr
yes but look at the cost of living in the DC area, not cheap by any means. Really when you look at cost of living v. pay it all evens out. My house payment in illinois buys a house 3 times the size of a apt in DC or it's suburbs, and i don't even have to worry about air qaulity, or traffic. Dont get me wrong I love DC and go home to visit every chance I get. I am lucky to live in the country but the city is only 45 minutes away. A good friend of mine who is a FNP was telling me she makes 60.00 an hour but she is independent contracter so they dont take taxes out of her, and she has not bothered to account for taxes etc and is upset because she just hired an accountant and he told her to expect to fork over at least 20,000. for federal , state when she does her taxes yikes
One of the reasons men make more than women for the same job is that men will be asking for a raise all the time while women tend to think that they will be noticed and rewarded for their performance. Just ask. You have a 50/50 chance...pretty good odds!
I actually just read that in an article the other day, and I find it fascinating. If you feel you deserve more money, ask for a raise. (I'm sure a quick google search on "how to ask for a raise" will give good ideas.)
