Many people have difficulty with Math - due to any number of factors. "Dyslexia" is an abnormality in processing letters and written language. "Dyscalculia" is mathematical learning disability. You will need to be formally assessed and diagnosed by a qualified professional in order to pursue this claim.

In order to become a nurse, you will have to successfully complete many 'hard' courses. Depending upon the degree you are seeking, you may have to complete College Algebra, Statistics and Chemistry - which requires math also.

Hi thank you for replying and i know the courses but do u think a dyscaulic person can go into nursing?

Math is very necessary for nursing school. If you are thinking about returning to college, you will take a placement test for math and the advisor will find the classes necessary for your pre-requisites. If you're concerned about your math proficiency, call the school you're interested in and set up a meeting with admissions. They're usually very helpful with questions like this.

Absolutely yes! Give it a try. I too, have math Dyscalculia. I was diagnosed by a counselor who specialized in the diagnosis of various learning disabilities. It's different that just being "terrible" in math. Once you have a concrete diagnosis on paper, make sure your college student affairs and/or counseling office has a copy of all your paperwork. Your individual professors and instructors will be told what specific help or accommodations you will need to do well in their classes. They won't release any information about your diagnosis unless you sign a release that gives specific consent allowing them to do so. That means you can tell any prof you choose the entire story/diagnosis if they're helpful, kind, want you to succeed, etc., but not have to tell the uncooperative, difficult, mean ones any more than you yourself choose to tell them.

You can absolutely make it with the proper help. If you plan from the outset to have tutors, be part of a study group, go to your college's learning center or tutoring center (or whatever your college calls it) and you'll gain confidence, and know you can do it.

There's no shame in needing some extra help. The real dimwits are the students who refuse to go because someone might say they were dumb. Any guesses who the dumb one would be in that scenario?!

Thank you :) id never thought id see a nurse with a math learning disability :)

A big thing is not to panic. Before you start any exam or test, take two or three really deep breaths and let each one out very slowly.

Let the breath out through your mouth. It will calm you down and relax you.

:) may i ask how`d u strenghthen ur weakness? what study techniques did u use ?

Most of us fail ourselves with our heart. You're not math dyslexic or whatever the name may be. You know it, and can do it. It's just that math in this country has been taken to be something else when other countries take it as a sandwish. Just be focus put your head down look up to your future, forget about immediate gratification and move on.

Im studying for the placement i just wish with word problems i can understand , this what im studying nd i alienate from this everytime. The Math Test any advice for this
