Can anyone suggest a good US agency who takes foreign nurses

I'm looking for an agency who offers 12-13wk placements. I don't intend on applying for a green card which seems to be what most agencies want to encourage. Has anyone had any good (or bad) experiences with international travel nurse agencies? :nurse:

If you're in the UK and don't already have a legal right to work in the US, I'm afraid you may find you have to go the green card route, there's no other way to do it (well, not that I know of anyway)

I've looked into non-immigrant visas & have found a couple of agencies who would take me on, however i want to make sure i choose the right company. Thanks for your advice though :)

First of all, and please accept this in the spirit it's intended (to be helpful).......do not believe everything agencies tell you

And more importantly, you cannot work as an RN here on a non-immigrant visa.

Have you read the sticky at the top of this forum? "A primer for those wishing to work in the US"

It's very useful and should help answer a lot of your questions :)

I don't think you will find an agency that will expect less than a 2 - 3 years committment from you. It is very expensive to be sponsored and they will need to reap what they have invested.

I am with an agency that arranges interviews with direct hire hospitals but I understand from reading with site that you can do this yourself.

I can tell you what agency I am with if you PM me, I have only have to pay them £199 and I get this back when I complete my first 3 months employment.

We do not have temporary work visas for the US in the capacity that you want. Just do not exist. And you will not find any travel agency in the US to hire you without US nursing experience as that is required by all facilities here, the only waiver to that rule is if the nurse is from Canada.

You also need to have passed the NCLEX exam, and have a Visa Screen Certificate in hand.

These so-called agencies are not doing anything legit, they are unable to get you a legal visa for the US as an RN; they may try to bring you over as unskilled laborer status, and then that makes you subject to being deported for immigration fraud.

Sorry, but there are no temporary contracts like this if you do not hold a green card or a Canadian passport to qualify for the TN Visa.

Please report these agencies to the US Embassy in London. They need to know about this.

The US is also under a retrogression at this time, so no one is coming here to work right now. And a bigger question to you is what type of degree did you earn when you did your nursing training?

If not the 4 year BSN, then it does not even qualify you for a temporary work visa, if we did have them. The other issue is that the job must require the four year degree as entry level and most in the US do not do that either. We have a limit of temporary work visas under the H1-B of only 65,000 per year.

Just not going to happen.

That's not correct - I am right now.

Sorry, but you are not under a temporary work visa which is the H1-B. You are actually under what is called a Treaty Visa and is entirely different from what is being discussed under this thread. The visa that you are under is called the E-3 visa and is restricted to those from your country.

Your type of visa also requires that the nurse hold a passport from Australia. It cannot be used by anyone else from any other country. And it is the only treaty visa where the spouse can also work.

The next closest is the TN Visa for those from Canada and Mexico, but the spouse is unable to work in the US, but can be included as a dependent only and not work.

Different in every aspect of processing as well as everything else.
