I know that we can't talk exact numbers, but can someone give me a ballpark of what I could ask for from a camp? I am a School Nurse and I did one 3 week stent in PA a few years ago and was given what I would consider a decent salary (my fellow nurses were paid much more) plus my 2 daughters were campers. I really enjoyed my time and this year could really use the money as I have one heading to college and one about to drive. I am looking for a similar short term assignment and would like to bring my nine year old daughter. I would like to know what others with similar experience expect to make. Thanks in advance!

3 Supervisors Weekend (0)

8 Staff Orientation (7 days before second session)

27 Session I

27 Session II (27 days)

1 After camp closing (1 day)

Your # of Days: 35 days

•You have agreed to volunteer for 1 week before the paid segment of your position.

•For the volunteer week, you will arrive before sundown on Tuesday, July 13 to move in and be prepared to work Wednesday, July 14th through Tuesday, July 20th.

•You will be paid for the 7 days July 21 – 27 as training time.

•You will begin your role independently on Wednesday, July 28th.

RN $7,100 ($107.57/day)

LPN Night nurse $5,000

Experience Dif. $ 300 (For each 1 full season of Sleep-away)

Your Salary: $3,764.95

Deductions

(Based on full summer attendance)

1st child $1,050 ($525.00)

2nd child $ 850 ($425.00

Add'l child $ 650

Pre-camper $ 250

Your Camper Fees: $950.00

COMPENSATION: $2,814.95

Where is this camp at? I just started negotiations with mine, and these numbers will be quite useful

i have made as little as $550 a week and as much as $1100 per week. This year I'm hoping to come in at the $900 per week range. I just started negotiating today. I will say the camp where I got paid the most is one I'm not so anxious to return to, pay isn't everything.

This particular camp is NY NY Surprise Lake Camp.

They will consider RN's and may be for night shift LPN. You could think about the camp if your are "hard worker".

The camp is huge more then 650 kids and 400 staff.

That's about the size of my camp. Thanks for the info. Just wondering what the logic is of having an LPN on the night shift only. I'm not sure about NY scope of practice but here in PA we use LPNs in general practice. We hire mostly RNs but I would say there are two or three LPNs on staff every year.

Please feel comfortable to email all your questions to the camps Health director, she is a nice lady and she is FNP. If there is no RN, they will be happy to have LPN, no LPN, will be happy to have "camp's moms" and other options. You just need to be "the best" match" to the camp job. Be ready urine screen will be done and fingerprints with references, as it done for FBI job.

What does the care of your pre camper involve. Are they providing a nanny.

I know this is a little old, but I was a camp nurse last summer (2015) in upstate NY and I was paid $1,000 a week...I was there for 6 out of the 8 weeks. It was a smallish camp (couple hundred kids) and there were 3 RN's on staff and we rotated who was on call (required to carry the walkie with us at all times and head to the health center at any hour of the night). Staff would take a reduction in their pay in order to send their kids there for free...which was a pretty great deal considering the full session is $11,000 and each 4 week is $7,000.

As Health and Safety Director, I got about $2500 last year for a full summer (6 wks camping, 2 weeks pre-camp setup), plus room and board. My assistant got about $1800. That said, we were both overqualified to be camp health officers (BSA requires only a Med First Responder, State of Michigan Requires EMT-B or Wilderness First Responder).

Last summer, I was a nurse at a camp in PA with over 2000 campers/staff on campus. There were five nurses, 3 EMTs (1 hired for infirmary the rest on call at times) and three administrative personnel. Pay was $3000 for 9 weeks. We worked rotating shifts depending on the time of day. We also rotated night call. We had med pass multiple times a day for over 100 campers, 50 campers on growth hormone, Doctor call a few hours each day, 12 beds in the infirmary and 3 isolation rooms.

How many on camp at any given time? 2000 sounds crazy but if your doing one week seasons than that's only like 350ish on camp at once. Either way that pay is crazy low if your not bartering tuition.

2000 campers at a time. Most of the nurses do barter tuition. For me, I was a school nurse, had the summer off, and I don't do well with boredom. I actually had a lot of fun. I was lucky because I had a paycheck coming in all summer (12 month pay schedule) and I sublet my apartment so I actually made more per month than when I was working. Also, I had free food, utilities, entertainment...

I thought of it as a money making vacation instead of a low pay job.
