CAM

Does anyone have any good resources to review CAM? Especially if there are specific medications that should NOT be taken with specific herbal remedies. We talked about this in class but it is not in any of my books. I also looked online, all I have found are resources for the general public and when it comes to adverse reactions it says to contact a medical provider, without giving specifics...

Do you mean for NCLEX? I have never studied this subject except for personal interest. I distinctly remember asking a doctor a question about it one time and the doctor told me outright that she did not utilize or refer to this in her practice.

Really? A friend who took the Kaplan course told me they said these questions will be showing up on the NCLEX exam, mainly so that we know how various CAM interacts with "traditional" medicine. Perhaps she was wrong? Since I haven't seen people talking about it I don't think I am going to worry about it but I was just curious. I do think that it is important for the medical community to know about CAM because people do use it and we need to know how it affects our patients.

i wouldnt really worry about it for da exam...theres too much to study...

i think a few herbal things may be important: the 3 G's: no ginger, garlic, or gingko with anticoags (or aspirin, ibuprofen, etc...); no kava with... well, something (;)), no black cohosh... you know, those kind of things~ drug/herbal interactions. Otherwise, I don't know that CAM will be on the test.
