Calling all Truman College Nursing Students

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi,

Are there any nursing students from Truman on here? Past or present. I have some questions that I can't seem to find the answer to on their website.

1. Is the admission still "lottery system" based? How would that exactly work? I saw on their website that they award points on GPA (ex: "4 X 4 = 16 pts for an A in A&P"). If it's a lottery, how come they look at GPA?

2. What GPA did you have when you got in? Are you a current or past student?

3. If it's GPA based, I think I'll have more luck getting in like that than the lottery. One last thing I wanted to ask, would any of you Truman students, past or present, be willing to sell or let me borrow your notes from Truman's Nursing School? I know you might think I'm trying to find an easy way out or cheat or something. What I really want to do, since I have the summer off, is to study ahead. I have done this in the past with Anatomy and Physiology and it has helped me tons. That's just how I learn. When I have free time, I just like to look at things from a non rushed way. Once school starts, I'll have 17 credit hours of classes and plus work. I will also be studying ahead for Microbiology and A&P this summer so I can really have a lot of time to digest the material.

*Please if you know anyone that would let me use their notes, contact me and I'll work someting out with them. :specs:

Thanks

Hi,

I will be starting the program Fall 2011. I appreciate any info that you could share about these two areas.

  • I have purchased some of the books and would like to start reading early for Nursing 101. What chapters of what books are covered in Nursing 101
  • What have you found to be the best way to study for the course? What has helped you the most.

Thanks much for your help.

Are you all going to read the 11 chapters for first week page by page (and all other future chapters)? I'm trying to decide the best way to learn, since it is quite a hefty amount of information.

Hi nurseollie,

You're lucky I just found my syllabus! Craven will be your best friend during 1st semester. This is the reading list:

Craven:

Week 1: Chapters 1,2,3,5,6,21,22,31,33

Week 2: 22,27

Week 3: 4,14,18,19

Week 4: 9,10,11,12,13,15

Week 5: 26,35,36

Week 6: 4

Week 7: 27,34,43

Week 8: 33

Week 9: 7,28,38

Week 10: 41,42

Week 11: 39,40

Week 12: 44,45

P.S. The semester is obviously 16 weeks long, but some of these will overlap.

This should keep you busy over the summer! I would suggest you read the chapters and then do the study questions in the Craven Study Guide. Also, do the practice questions on www.thepoint.lww.com (you'll be introduced to this website at Orientation-it's the website to the Craven book and you can already sign up if you have the access code). My best advice for doing well on the EXAMS is to do practice questions!!! When you think you have done enough practice questions, go back and do more practice questions!!! I hope I've helped. Good luck to you.

Thanks so much for the information. That is very helpful.

You're welcome. If you have any other questions or concerns, please ask. I was in your shoes a year ago so I can relate to the anxiety.

Hi, I am planning to transfer my credit from another college to Truman. Also, I am planning to take the compass exam. Were you on the waiting for sometime? Please any advise will help..

What waiting list are you speaking of????? There is no official waiting list to get into the program. It is all based on grades and having taken the prerequisites and the compass reading exam.

Does anyone know if we have to buy the entire bundle of book's at Becks or if we can buy some of them individually if we can't find some of them online?

We didn't use the entire bundle the first year, but I don't know if we'll be using it all the second year. We focused on Fundamentals of Nursing (Craven) for 1st semester and Medical-Surgical Nursing (Lewis) for 2nd semester. We also used the Nugent and Vitale book for practice questions and you'll definitely need the HESI book. Also, the Nurse's Drug Guide was required and the Craven Procedure Checklist book.

I talked to two separate people in my Micro class and one of them says to definitely get all the books because I will need them and the other one says it's a waste to by all of them. I guess it might depend on which teacher you end up having.

Has anyone managed to find out what clinical fees are for the first year this year? I cannot get the nursing office to give me this information!

izzyoco- If you look up the class schedule on Truman's website, it says the course fee is $840 at the end of the discription of the course. Not sure if thats right, but it has always been accurate when I signed up for my other classes!
