Calling all Truman College Nursing Students

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi,

Are there any nursing students from Truman on here? Past or present. I have some questions that I can't seem to find the answer to on their website.

1. Is the admission still "lottery system" based? How would that exactly work? I saw on their website that they award points on GPA (ex: "4 X 4 = 16 pts for an A in A&P"). If it's a lottery, how come they look at GPA?

2. What GPA did you have when you got in? Are you a current or past student?

3. If it's GPA based, I think I'll have more luck getting in like that than the lottery. One last thing I wanted to ask, would any of you Truman students, past or present, be willing to sell or let me borrow your notes from Truman's Nursing School? I know you might think I'm trying to find an easy way out or cheat or something. What I really want to do, since I have the summer off, is to study ahead. I have done this in the past with Anatomy and Physiology and it has helped me tons. That's just how I learn. When I have free time, I just like to look at things from a non rushed way. Once school starts, I'll have 17 credit hours of classes and plus work. I will also be studying ahead for Microbiology and A&P this summer so I can really have a lot of time to digest the material.

*Please if you know anyone that would let me use their notes, contact me and I'll work someting out with them. :specs:

Thanks

Relax Everyone! I do not think you all need to get a CBC, why in the world woud you need that? Why would they need to know how many Bands you have and your RBC count? I did not need one of those when i started last year. I needed to get a titer done which I had done at a clinic on Fullerton and Californiaish, I just called around random clinics until I found one that would do it. The cheapest place to get the drug screen is this place downtown on Michigan Ave that Truman gave me the info about, it was on $35. The problem is you need a 10 panel drug screen, most places like clinics only do a 7. When I went to the clinic I told them I needed a 10 panel and they did a 7 anyway, when I took my results to Truman they told me it was no good and that I needed to take another drug test and gave me the info for the one downtown so I went straight there and they gave me the results immediately. You will also need the background check which was like 30 bucks and you do it online. CPR can be taken at the city colleges you just sign up like you would a summer class, I took it at Truman and it was about 6 hours long I think. I also needed to get a Tetorifice shot as well as the Hep B series, they only want to know that you have started the series when you start school(it takes 5 months to complete). You dont need insurance. Relax about the books, you need all the books, yes you do, you will use them all but do not panic. The most important ones for 101 are the Fundamentals boook and the Hesi book as well as the Reviews and rationals Fundamentals book. Those were the main books we used all semester, oh and the Lilley pharm text.

In regards to the person that had the question about working, I work full time at a very stressful job as a manager of a huge store in the city full time, I got an A in 101 and 102. You can work and succeed. Let me know if you all have any questions I can answer for you!

Handwinting, on this thread there is a lot of good information from "gonnabenurse11" a Truman student that was very helpful to all of us last year, you can find more information starting with post #93, but this one in particular tell you about your question on insurance.:)

Truman has a prof. HUDA, I dont think it has a "Harmon"

Professor Huda is teaching the one that starts at 5. L. Harmon is teaching the one starting at 6. The professor was mentioned as one of the night instructors in an earlier post, but no one went into detail.

Harmon and 4:00 - 5:50 pm (staff) Does anyone have advice, opinion(s), comment(s), or just general information on these instructors? pros /cons? Any information will be helpful. Thanks.

I'm a first year student. I really like the Truman Nursing Program! It has its ups and downs, but I would definitely recommend it. The cost for 1st and 2nd semester is about $3,000 total plus $1,000 for books.

Hi 4hana9: Do you know if the $1,000 for books covers both 1st and 2nd year? Or is it $1,000 for the 2nd year too?

Thank you very much! i could not find it anywhere!

Hi,

$1000 is only for 1st year. Be wise about the books, you do not need all of them. The most important book is Fundamental of nursing by Craven. Last year there was a separate package cost around $250 with Craven text book, study guide and something else (I forgot). This you will need for sure.

Also, Mrs. Huda is awesome instructor, I had her for both semester in 1st year. Yes, you have to work hard, but you learn a lot.

Please,

I need help to find out which books we are using for 2 nd year (for Psych, and OB). I would like to buy the books in advance and I need the author's names and the titles. The help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.
