Calling all Florida CNAs/PCTs!! Where did you complete your training?

I'm currently a Pre-Nursing student completing my pre-reqs and have decided to obtain my CNA license. Where did you go to get your CNA/PCT training? I live in the Tampa Bay area so if anyone could let me know of a great program please let me know!!!! Also, any hospitals in the area who provide training??

I live in Titusville,Fl.. The other side of the coast.But I did my training from the Red Cross(they only do the CNA classes).You could go to the community colleges.They also have classes for the CNA/PCT.My class was held at a nursing/rehab facility.It was 5 weeks long with 1 week of clinicals.I think working as a CNA before you work as a nurse is great.I am hoping after working a full year as a CNA I am going to start my nursing classes.Hope this helps..........good luck with the CNA/nursing.:roll

I am a CNA and an RN student. All I did was study, and then challenged the state certification. It was very easy, all though I di have hands on training as a NA before I took the test. Alot of the LTC facilities will hire you w/o a certification and train you to take the test. If you want a PCA, you will have to have additional training.

I am new to the forum and noticed your post. I took a 2 week prep course with florida med prep in st pete. They are VERY reasonable compared to the colleges if you are major strapped for cash (like me!). It prepared me well for the state exam, which you can take right there at the school. it was quite stressful, but I crammed and made it. Unfortunately, I can't seem to BUY a PCT job, which I'd die for. I passed my exam in October and have been doing agency home health for 2 months. I JUST got hired last week for work in a local rehab facility and start this coming Tuesday. YAY! Wish me luck. :-) All this in hopes of going to nursing school. Ahhhh, step 1 completed.

How was your first few days at your new job? Hope they went well. I have to say that you are truly inspiring.

I'm starting a CNA course at Charlotte Technical Center (in port charlotte, FL) in March. I'm a little nervous about the whole thing, but excited too. I can only afford to go Part time, but even then it's only a four month program. I just have to ask... how did you learn everything in 2 weeks and pass the State Exam?

wow, thanks for the kudos! i started tuesday with the 9-hour administrative orientation, but i don't start the orientation on-the-floor until saturday. i am quite nervous. hopefully, it will go reasonably well. the management staff seems to be a dream come true. i hope first impressions are true to life. unfortunately, the pay end is what hurts. now i'll have to work 2 jobs to stay afloat. ugh. i have literally put in over 70 applications since halloween at hospitals from largo to brooksville. i keep being beaten out by more experienced people - and it doesn't help that i require days because of being a single mom. grrrrrr.

no matter what, i am hanging in. i believe you can do anything you set your mind to - it just might take a while. i may have to hold off school until i can get a better paying job and pare it down to 1 job and school and raising my son.

you can do it!!!!!

i'll let you know how my first few days go!!

my goodness you have a lot on your plate. you have determination on your side though, and with that you are absolutely going to make it. hearing everything you're dealing with to reach your goals makes me feel very fortunate in my position. i am not a single mother (in fact i'm not a mother at all), but my mom was, and i know how tough that can be. i am very lucky to have a great man in my life (one of the very few) and in this day and age you have to have two incomes to survive. again you are truly an inspiring person and i wish all the best for you in life.

Hi all. I know some of these posts are very old, but I will be attending Loosendz CNA training course in 2 weeks. The program runs for 4 weeks (at night, 3 weeks if taken during the day) and they have someone come 7 days a week to administer the state test. I am pretty excited even though I have heard that this job is very hard physically and very hard mentally because some nurses don't respect CNA's and treat them harshly. This is just a stepping stone for me now until I complete nursing school at PHCC (I did not get in yet but I am hopeful).
