Calling During Clinicals

Published

Just wondering, what are the hours of you clinicals and how many call ins do you get a semester?

Thanks

Our clinical times were 645-1530. We were allowed to miss one day per semster.

Right now in OB we are on the floor 2X/ week for 8 hours each.

We get (2) excused absences from clinical but they MUST be made up....either on the unit, simulation lab, or whatever the instructor decides.

I missed my 2 this week w/ strep throat. I am making up 1 on the unit and 1 by doing a research paper on the effects of methamphetamines and mdma on the fetus.

We get 2 missed clinical days a semester. No make-ups. More than 5 minutes late to clinical w/o calling and you get sent home=1 miss. More than two misses is an automatic fail for the entire semester.

We have clinicals every other (approximately) Tues and Wed from 7am-3pm. I am not sure how many days we can miss, but I missed both this week, so I'll find out at the faculty meeting I have to attend on Monday! My CI and other instructor dont seem to act like its a big deal, but I'm anticipating having to make up the days with another group. I only missed because I was coughing and sometimes throwing up, so I didn't really want to be doing that all over my patient! :)

I honestly don't know!! I think one may be allowed, but I am not sure...unless I'm running a fever or know I'm highly contagious, I don't plan to miss any!! I don't need that blight!! lolol

we have clinicals 2 wks a month and the times are dependent upon the instructor for instant my january clinicals were from 0630-1630 the first week of my feb clinicals were from 0800-1700 the second week was from 0630-1630 my march clinicals will be from 0630-1630 and the first week of my april clinicals will be from 1500-2300 and my second week will be 1100-1900 (hopefully but they'll probably bee from 1500-2300 too) and the problem with all these times is the travel associated with them...in jan i had to drive to a hospital 30 minutes away which isn't that bad because my clinicals this past week were an hour away and my clinicals in april will be 3hrs away so i have to get a hotel room but anyway i'm only allowed 1 missed clinical

clinicals this semester are 6:30-12:30 not long enough for me but next year is alot longer, we have a few on wednesdays but most are Th & Fri, any time missed has to be made up whether it's lecture or clinical, if you are 15 mins or more late to either that is also counted as an abs. our program is run like a very tight ship and since it's so small there is no wiggle room so you can bet I'd have to have both feet in the grave to miss any lecture or clinical

I understand how important clinicals are, but crap happens! What about your car breaking down on the way to clinical, or a death in the family, or any of a myriad of other things that one has absolutely no control over? All I'm saying is, why don't they automatically plan ahead for some makeup days? Noone would miss without a very valid reason!:specs:

One day per week this year, from 7 am until 14 00

in Fall semester we will have 2 clinicals per week, one from 700 to 1400 and one from 1500 to 2200

Cannot miss more than one session, and we have to have documented reason for missing one session.

when do clinicals start for everyone? does anyone have them in block 1, or is it further into the program?

thanks

jeremy

I don't know what " block 1" is unless that is the same thing as 1rst semester.

I started clinicals 3 weeks into my program 1rst semester.
