California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

I saw a position online today that says "student nurse" is that what you applied for or did it actually say "new grad"?

I had applied online for a position about a month ago, I called to follow up and it's kinda weird that someone from HR told me they don't have a new grad program. I'm sure I was given the wrong info.

Good luck to you!:):)

thank you, wooosp! i applied for a position with a new grad on the title... i've been calling every week, and finally when i called on thursday i was told that something will be up by the end of the week... which is the next day. the position was up friday afternoon, and i think taken down sometime monday afternoon?

i'm sorry to hear about your miscommunication with HR :(

Darn, just missed it!

AHMC will be having a job fair on 8/20 and includes various San Gabriel Valley hospitals. They will be having walk-in interviews and from my understanding some of their hospitals will be having a new grad pgrm....just not sure which ones.

Alvarado Hospital and Beverly Hospital

I was contacted earlier today from Methodist Hospital about them reviewing my app, so *crossing fingers!*

They also told me that they're still reviewing my application.hehe

I sympathize, I've been looking for over 7 months. I've applied to over 800 positions all over California. It really seems to be who you know or prior employment that gets the hospital jobs.

I feel your pain, I've been looking as long as you, and have applied to numerous locations, and nothing. I"m not even sure if knowing someone helps, I've been constantly keeping in contact with the nurse managers where I did my preceptorship and still no jobs. Many places are hiring internally, which is really hard because I don't know what to do at this point anymore. I've been crying, hating myself, and seriously now starting to loose hope. I received so many turn downs it's not even funny, it doesn't even phase me anymore.

Can someone help some advice on what to do?

Everybody driiiiiiiink!! :beercuphe*wine

Hang in all and believe in yourselves.

Babo..the snf i was talking about is Piedmont Gardens in Oakland, I started at $35/hr, but I just recently left and took a job at a hospital in Southern Californa.

Girl, I'm sorry you are going through this. I know your pain. Go to healthcare agencies online and get placed. That's exactly what I did 1 day when i realized it was not going to be easy. I went crazy online, applying for any and every medical hiring agency that places RN's, LVN's, etc. in hospitals. They work with hospitals around the nation and the hospital pays them if they hire ppl from them. You don't have to pay them nor do they deduct from your check.

I sincerely wish you the best!

P.S. I can't give you the name of the agency that got found a job for me. I was going to and asked them but they prefer me not to since I had been the only one hired in the last 7 months through them and they had lotzzz of ppl awaiting still. Keep searching girl! have you tried LTC, Sheriffs dept, schools, volunteer work in hospiatals, hospice homes, corrections, county jobs, etc.

Anyone appllied for UCSD NEW GRAD PROGRAM?i heard there will be a new grad porgram for sharp hospital next mont. Ive been applying online since i passed my board in June but no luck yet most of my friends have jobs already and i feel terrible right now like im getting depressed and hopeless...=(
