California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

U.S.A. California

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

I started this site months ago and feel excited for all the responses it has received.

I still haven't landed a job BUT let me tell you what I have done.

- PALS and ACLS classes

-Will be volunteering at my local hospital

-Landed a part-time gig from sept-dec giving vaccinations

-Shadowing a nurse in a SNF

I will plan to look for a SNF job in September. I'm done for now with looking at

new grad positions. It's been 9 months and I'm so drained and just need experience.

I had a interview with UKiah Medical Center. Great hospital, wanted the job but didn't get chosen for the peer interview. I think I need major help with interviewing even though I though I did all right.

That is a start. You should be proud of yourself for getting the interview at least. Despite not getting the job, you now have an idea of how interviews go and you are now more experienced.

You should look into getting some type of coaching for interviews. There are services out there for this type of thing. An excellent resume can only get you so far: an interview. It won't land you the job. Invest time into improving your interviewing skills. In the real world, the most qualified person does not get the job, the one who interviews best will get it despite being less qualified.

2 more New Grad opportunities available

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, part time positions, starts Aug

Fountain Valley Hospital, start date unknown. I, or if someone gets to it before me, will call the nurse recruiter for clarification on start date, as it says they aren't accepting for Jan 2010.

Anybody applying to/accepted into/in the process of doing UCLA's New Grad Program?

when do they start accepting applicants for their next program? (which i think starts in february)

any pointers or tips when applying?

the interview process? (phone? in person?)

living arrangements?

salary as a new grad in their residency program?

thanks in advance

This thread has been so helpful. I will be starting my preceptorship in Sept. and plan on taking the NCLEX in january. How soon can I start to apply for jobs/new grad programs? Is there anything else that I can do to help the process like classes or cerfitications. I have a job at a hosptial as a lab/unit assistant now and hopefully that will fuel a pre diem position later but I want to apply for everything I can.

I cant move out of the bay area anytime soon due to my husband's job and free childcare from our parents.

I know this thread is for RN new grad programs but I was wondering if anybody knew an easy way of getting listings for SNFs, LTCs, etc. I still plan on applying to hospitals but in the case that I don't get anywhere anytime soon, I was going to look into my other options. I live in northern California but I am willing to relocate anywhere else in California if it means having a job and getting experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You would be surprised!!!!!! I am so greatful to for posting this site! I had been searching for ages for a complete listings of nursing homes in the State of California!! I called and sent out many resumes via online and it did work!!!!!!!!!! I have to move from my appartment by the end of this month!!!!!!!!!!! I pushed everything aside in my life! I said to my self: I will pass NCLEX, I will move foward, I will find a job, I will succeed!!!!!!!! and I gave my 30 day notice...!!!!!!!!!!! :D I have accomplished all!!!!!!!!!!!! But wondering if there is another opportunity somewhere near Morro bay or Marina del Rey? or anywhere near or around central Ca!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG if not I will have to move all the way into Northern Ca. It's a blessing to have accomplished many things in my life and to have a job during these times of crisis.
