California Travel Nurse Pay

What should I expect to get paid as a travel nurse in the ICU in California from December until March (2013)? My recruiter quoted $850 with their housing and $1500 without their housing. Is this ridiculous or is this the travel nursing market right now?

What are you guys getting paid currently in ICUs in California?

How much are you guys getting paid in ICUs in other parts of the country?

What is more important to you? Hourly wage, benefits, housing (extended stay vs furnished apartment), hours a week (36 vs 48hrs weekly) ?

There is no way of getting a quote from one recruiter/agency and knowing if it is representative. "My recruiter" is the problem, you need to be signed up with several agencies. It sounds like you are not a traveler (yet). I take it you are from a high pay area of the country and are having difficulty justifying travel financially. You may not be able to rationalize it. Travelers from the West Coast and the NE are fairly rare compared to those from the Midwest or South.

This is take home pay right? Sounds a tad low, but if it's San Diego or other lower paying areas it may be ok. I'm ICU in CA and usually take home around 945-1,000ish per week after taxes. I do contribute to a 401K though, so add 15% to that and I always take company housing. My current apartment rents for over 2K/month, then include furniture, so I feel like I'm making out ok as it's all free without hassle.

I'm sure I make less than others but prefer to travel this way.

What city is it if you don't mind me asking? I've been traveling in ICUs in CA for awhile now.

I have been here in San Jose for about 8 months and I am in am extended stay that my agency pays for. I work 48 hours a week and bring home about $1600 per week. Taxes are a killed here though.

What areas of CA pays better?? I have heard so many things about North and South CA pay differences, that Im trying to get insight from a nurse recently working there.

It changes daily sometimes. In general, north pays better than south. The Central Valley can mimic southern or Northern California. Why do you ask? If you are chasing the money, simply ask your agencies for the best paying assignments.

Just got a couple of travel offers in So. Cal at around $1500 with Stipend. 2 agencies within 20 bucks of each other.

Which two agencies?

Is this $1500 take home pay, plus stipend or with everything? Yeah, which agencies and are they based out of Cali?

$1500 including stipend $45 +/- using pan calculator. PM if you want the agencies, but seems all are about the same right now. Varies a bit by city a 100 or so. I'm looking from SB down for the winter, but I'm being a bit picky to my recruiters sh-grin.

Yeah i guess its quite necessary to get paid reasonably. What you are telling is not according to what you should be getting at the moment but yeah hopefully you get better opportunities and get to have some better things.
