California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) ABSN Summer 2024

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi there!

I wanted to start a forum for those of us applying to CSULA's ABSN Summer 2024 program. I hope we can help answer questions, offer stats, and support each other during this application cycle. All the best to everyone!

Are the interviews going out alphabetical or random? I'm genuinely curious, anyone else weighing private schools in Southern California?

I have no idea about the interviews. I applied to Concordia University Irvine and got accepted into their program. I'm considering taking their offer.

Good luck to everyone with this process. I remember I was in your shoes last year with this program. If you get in, it is such a great program with lots of support from faculty, and amazing clinical placements every semester. To those still waiting to hear for an interview date, there is hope. I interviewed on the last week and got accepted to the program on decision day, and so did a lot of my cohort friends. And, from what I hear, there is also a waiting list. Some of my current cohort friends were able to get into the program when some of those who were accepted declined or changed their mind for other schools.

Also remember that while a high GPA looks good, you are more than your GPA.... just make sure you have met the minimum requirements at least to get a shot at making your case during the zoom interview.

Interview tips: Be yourself. Remember your "why nursing" and talk about your experiences in healthcare that will help you be a good nurse and good cohort member ? Everyone in our cohort is genuinely supportive of each other and cares for each others success in this program ?

Once you hear back about your admission, and if you are admitted, enjoy your acceptance. Our program coordinator will tell you what you need to do before the program starts at zoom orientation in April. Also, enjoy your time off if you can -- bc you will be busy. The program is doable and survivable, just a lot of work sometimes with exams, clinicals, and Care Plans. And, you can also work per-diem while in the program. There are several of my cohort friends that are working per-diem as CNAs since the start of the program, and others have taken up employment tutoring and doing other side gigs as well.

Regarding financial aid and how to pay for the program, our program coordinator will connect you with the financial aid office and they are good at finding federal loans for you for Summer, fall, and Spring.

Wishing everyone on here the best in your journey!

Thank you so much for sharing this!! I have been stressing a little because I haven't heard back about an interview time since I received the email to apply to the school but this definitely eased my worries.

It is so good to hear that the program is great and that it is doable to work while completing the program! I was wondering if anyone has worked while in the program because I am thinking of doing that if I get accepted.

Thanks again for sharing all this with us 🙂

In terms of the incomplete tag you see at the bottom of the GET page, CSULA got back to me indicating that's normal and will change once eligibility verification is complete and are admitted.

Just got an offer for an interview! Got it almost at like 11pm today LOL

Hey everyone, I'm a student in last year's cohort, ABSN 20.  If you guys have any questions as you go through the interview and (hopefully) acceptance/intake process, just drop a comment!

This isn't related to the interview, but how was the program when you attended? I saw some posts about people saying it wasn't very organized. It came as a shock to me

I think they might be overstating. It's definitely a little scrappy, but I think it's well-organized. We get all the credits and clinical hours we need, and then some. The clinical sites and the experience we get are fantastic. Most of the instructors are really good. It's an accelerated program so it's sort of necessarily wacky, on a structural level, I'm not sure it could be otherwise, but I wouldn't say it isn't well organized.

Hi,

Does anyone know if we have to submit our AP exam scores? It's been a while so collegeboard says it would take more than 2 weeks to send out my scores and it seems they want everything sent within 2 weeks so im worried

Hi all,

Is anyone else still waiting to hear back about an interview time? I'm getting a bit worried since I think next week is the last week they're doing interviews. Or does anyone know if they're still interviewing through the last week of March?

I know they said that all decisions will be released on 3/29, if that helps.

Also, they invited me on Tuesday to a Friday interview so they don't always give you a ton of notice, FYI
