California RN license after Indiana State University lvn to bsn

Published

While I have seen that the ISU lvn to bsn is not being currently offered to those living in California, are graduates of the lvn to bsn program able to be licensed in California? I am considering completing the ISU online lvn to bsn program, but want to make sure I will be able to be licensed in California as I will likely move to and work there one day. Thanks

ISU has reopened their program to California residents as of July 2013

I am not sure if they are accepting new students in California. They are attempting to get the students that were already in the program through the program by using the VA hospitals in California for clinicals. I have known of several instructors that have flown to Cali. for a week to get students their clinical hours and have seen several students last summer come to ISU to complete clinicals here.

So the option exists for online students to complete clinicals in the Terra Haute area? I used to work in Indianapolis and sometimes had to go to Terra Haute in my EMT days. It would be great to just take a trip out there to do clinicals. So long as there won't be any license issues in California down the road?

The issues you would have are the same as if you got your degree here. It would be considered an out of state program. Probably best to get an Indiana license and then apply for a California license.

I am not saying that they would allow you to come here for clinicals. It was a special circumstance of trying to get the students that were already in the program when Cal. State univ. didn't renew the contract.

Don1984,

As I stated in an earlier post, ISU began accepting new students from CA into their program beginning July 2013! I know this because I started the program (Phase 1) here in CA in August! They are using the VA hospital & the CA Dept of Corrections for clinical along with working on more clinical sites in Northern & Southern CA

That is good news. I am glad they found a way to allow you guys to get your degree. I have asked the director of the campus based BSN several times about the status of the California students. I hope that using the federal system works for you guys.

This is great news. Are they currently open to new California applicants?

I called ISU & was told they are NOT accepting new California Applicants

I called them up and was told that they are not currently accepting new California applicants. They are currently only putting through their current California students

Glad to read that they are at least taking care of those who were already in the pipeline.

That was my understanding when I talked to one of the instructors that flew to California a couple of months ago. It was my understanding that they were trying to get the students that were all ready enrolled through the program and then try to figure a long term plan (continue with federal facilities or partner up with a non-CSU school).
