Hi!!! I passed the NCLEX-RN last April. Anyone here working in hospitals with New Grad RN programs? Would love to get some recommendations:) Thanks in advance:)

Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, CA has a new grad program starting August 4th. Wonderful hospital. I'll be working there starting in September.

White Memorial Medical Center has a great program, too.

Cedars Sinai, a magnet hospital, has a program.

Mission Hospital has programs starting June 23 and October 27th.

Citrus Valley Health Partners (4 hospitals) have varying start dates for different specialty areas.

Glendale Adventist Medical Center: Med/Surg programs start every month, I think.

Glendale Memorial Hospital starts Aug 13 and Oct. 14.

Just some of the ones I know about.

Congrats and good luck.

Wow!!! That's a lot! Thank you so much Hands and Heart:) Will check these hospitals. By mid-July, I will be in the Costa Mesa area. I am currently in Portland, OR and I sure do hope I can get into their programs within this year:) Goodluck on your job as well...Thanks again:)

Northridge hospital, Northidge, California

Los Robles, Thousand Oaks

St. John's, Oxnard, CA

Community Memorial, Ventura, CA

Santa Barbara Cottage, Santa Barbara, CA

All of these hospitals have new grad programs;)

Thanks 81ke83!!! I saw some online like Saddleback, Hoag and Anaheim Memorial? Are these good places too???

I am not familiar with those other schools. I am going to go to work for Northridge. It was the first place that I applied. Los Robles is having a job fair this Friday from 1-4, they are doing interviews at the faire. Cost of living in SB is steep, alot of nurses commute.

Good for you!!! My limitation right now is that I'm out of state so I am not able to go to job fairs there... I sure hope I get into these programs. I am even willing to sign a 1-2 year contract for the training.

Be aware that most of these programs are full already for starts this summer. Applicants have been applying since April or so for slots.

Would definitely advise getting a job first before moving down, always better to do it that way.

Especially for a new grad program.

Just noticed from one of your other posts that you graduated back in 1992 and never had any experience as an RN in your home country either.

Sorry, but chances of getting hired for a new grad program without taking at least a refresher course is going to be impossible in the hospital setting.

We are seeing it get harder and harder for someone that has been away from the field for even three years to get hired, but 16 years?

There is no way that you can expect to be hired in a hospital, and you are only setting yourself up for failure to try a nursing home without any experience at all and from that long ago.

You are going to need much more than a new grad orientation before getting hired. Would check into that.

Hi Suzanne, Thanks for your advise...I really hope I get a job before I move mid July but if not, I'm willing to wait when I'm there. My husband has been there for 2 years now and we have been apart for that period of time. He said that I can also apply for a job at the facility he's in right now...I am also willing to get into the New Grad programs even in the fall...What we want right now if for everyone to adjust for our move especially my children and to enjoy most of the summertime as a family. I know that California is totally different from Portland especially the weather hehe:)

Hi Suzanne, I'm not sure where I can get these refresher courses. Where can I possibly look? Is it through schools???

It is going to be impossible for you to get hired by a hospital if you graduated that long ago and never worked in the field. I am not going to lie to you and tell you that it will be easy to get a job, it is not going to be, especially as a new grad first of all. But being out of school for 16 years and never any experience in nursing is just going to make it impossible.

There are refresher programs that are available thru some of the community colleges, would check with them to see if you qualify for some of those.

It is not a point of applying, but actually getting hired and that is where you are going to find issues. Things are also done so very differently here than what you saw when you were in school, significantly different procedures, etc. Plus all of the new digital equipment as well as all of the new meds, etc.
