new grad psych positions

U.S.A. California

Hello,

I am soon to be a new grad and hoping to get into Psych nursing in California. What are the odds of starting out in Psych. What are the good hospitals for this area? I really want to live in San Diego. Also, any idea on pay? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

i am a student considering psych nursing. how does the pay compare to other areas of nursing such as med-surg, er, icu, etc?

There's a New grad program in psych at UCLA. It's an excellent program, I started in July. I work in the adolescent unit and I love it. The nice thing about UCLA is they have child, adolescent, adult and geriatric psych. The starting pay is $ 28.84/hr and if you work evenings there is a @2.25/hr differential and after 6 months the 28.84/hr goes to 30.50. All RN's at UCLA make the same money, it doesn't matter what dept. you work in. UCLA is an excellent place to work. I hope this helps you. Good luck!!

Hi,

I read your posting about your new grad psych position at UCLA on the adolscent floor. I also graduated in May 2006 and started in the ICU in a different hospital which is where I'm at now. I always loved psych and working with adolscents and wanted to go in that direction in the beginning but was steered away from it. I know UCLA has a great psych unit and program and I'm so interested, but having a very hard time getting the recruitor Sherri Monsein to call back...guess she is very busy. My friend works in the CTU unit and she can't find anything out about the neuropsych institute. If you can be so kind as to give me a name of a manager, director or who ever so I can bypass the recruitor I would appreciate it.

Thanks so much
