Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

Hi All,

I was admitted to the January 09 BSN cohort at NU and just got an orientation "packet" today saying I needed to take an additional NSG 211 course prior to starting in January. I don't think there are any classes for the remainder of the year and I'm totally panicked I can't start in January now. Also, we need to be CPR certified prior to starting classes, get all the immunization records signed off by a doctor, financial aid, and a background check by mid November. Why weren't we told all of this sooner and only given a month or so to complete everything? Anyone else have a complete breakdown like I am by being so overwhelmed by the process?

i wouldn't worry about it. i am going to be starting in july 09, and i am sure that the program is designed so that everything is set up to go pretty smoothly. i am curious, what did your nursing packet consist of? i received a packet when i got accepted, its only about 4 pages long, is that the one you got? the cpr cert is easy, i already have mine from about a year ago, it was $50 for the class and only lasted about 2 hours or so. i think in terms of insurance and everything, they will help us out. i wouldn't panic though, you still have a bit of time. give the nursing dept. a call, i am sure they could give you more info.

I spoke with admissions regarding the Los Angeles BSN program. They told me to take the 2 prereqs left plus a library science class.

They said I can't apply until those are finished and then it is possible to be admitted for Fall 2009.

Are the requirements for the accelerated BSN the same as the regular track because I already hold a bachelors degree.

misslolalady,

I only received a one page "accepted" letter that listed the pre-requisites I still had to take. I was taking the classes when I received the letter as they knew I needed them both before entering the program. The orientation package was a long list of the items (stated in my previous post) that you needed to complete or have by the orientation day, which is in 6 weeks for me. I found out that the NSG class is actually the first class of the program, so technically it's not a pre-req as we know it.

as27,

not sure what the process is like for the other BSN programs. I'm talking specifically about the accelerated BSN for non-RN's. I was able to apply prior to finishing 3 classes and was accepted (never heard of library science). I'm currently taking the final 2. Have a BS in biology from a local school, graduated about 10 years ago. Can you meet with an advisor? They should be able to go through your transcripts with you and tell you exactly which classes you need. Hope this helps!

Hi! :)

I'm hoping someone here can please answer my question because no one at the university has responded to me yet. I've been recently accepted into NU and was wondering if ALL your classes (i.e. ILR 260) have to be complete in order to apply for the nursing program? Or can you apply while you're still in the process of completing your prerequisites, like some other nursing schools.

Hello!

I was accepted into the Oct'08 Cohort. :yeah: I don't have the ILR260 or the Multiculural "something-or-the-other" class, nor the Statistics prereq. You could pay a fee to by-pass the computer class; the others are placed within the program. The last "regular" class that I attended, had a few R.N's in the class. By this, I mean that they passed the NCLEX, and were taking classes to satisfy the BSN degree. I hope this helps. Good Luck:nurse:

not sure how to delete this! lol

Hi mommalumps! Thanks for the info! and congrats and good luck to you, as well! :)

I was wondering, did you complete your prerequisites at another school or at NU? From what I was told, I have to have ILR before I could apply for their nursing program, which is why I decided to go here. Any advice?

Hello Joyskoy!!:D

I was getting ready to start the ASN program at Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans before the storm. We know how that ended. I took all of my prereqs at Delgado Community College while there. Nursing was calling me; I now live in Escondido, CA. I still don't have ILR and some other classes; is that the computer lit. class? If so, you don't have to take it now. Advice. N.U is the place to go. They don't mak you take non-essential classes (Human Anthopology, Art 101, what the...) of other colleges. I had to take the Micro and lab at NU b/c I didn't have them before. There are some classes that are exclusive to N.U that you must take there. How many more prereqs do you need? Feel free to ask. :wink2:

Hi mommalumps!! :p

I still need microbio, human anatomy II, oral communications, and ILR (yep, that computer class :typing ) How and when did you apply for the nursing program, and how long did you wait? Some other schools have applications online and also let you apply when you're still in the process of completing your prerequistes, as long as you provide your transcripts by deadline. But, according to my advisor, she said everything has to be done and then I could apply. Sooooo yeah, pretty confused now

Btw, thanksss again for the info!!

Hello Joyskoy!!

Apply A.S.A.P!!!! You could take these classes at N.U. while you wait to get into the program. I waited about 4-5 months before I knew about my acceptance. I received an acceptance letter in the mail :yeah:. First from the school and second from the Nursing program a week or two later. I had mostly all of my prereqs: I finished A&P I and II, which at the time , was about 3 years before getting accepted. I took Chemistry in N.O but I still needed to take Microbiology Lec and Lab (very interesting class). Please, make sure that your GPA is above 2.7; it looks much better than a 2.7 or 2.8. If you have that or above, apply. What I have witnessed is that kids would apply for the program and would be told to wait until their GPA was better; there were quite alot of these students in my Micro class. Micro was the first class I ever took at N.U and I was waiting until the first nursing class started (it was about a three month wait; not bad). I just came in from work and wanted to check on you. ( I work at night)

Thank you for the questions; I hope that the answers are helping you. NU is A GREAT SCHOOL.. fast paced.. adult oriented. Its hectic but so is life; if you have little ones, as I do, hence the :heartbeatMommalumps:heartbeat ,it can be EXTRA tough. If you WANT to be a Nurse, you are already TOUGHER than most folks!!! Must... SLeeeppp... now:wink2: I'll return soon

I was also told I can't apply until my AP II & Micro are finished. Oh and that technology class which I am starting next week.

BUT he did say if I apply after those classes are finished it is possible to be admitted for Fall 09.

Anyone know how much the tuition is by chance? Thanks
