National University San Diego

Published

Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

I do believe you can take the class at a CC to save some money. I would still check with the advisors to verify.

The CC's do that an equivalency to ILR 260. I took it last semester but it teaches you about how to find research for your report. Our textbook was called "the Extreme internet users guide to search engines". It didnt focus at all on using microsoft office programs. O\ur final project did not include a paper, just had to create our own blog on a current research topic. It was a fun, easy class, fully online, and I got an A.

Hello All!!

I too am hoping to re-enter into the N.U program in October '08. I was in the program late last year, but had to leave due to me finding full-time work. Administrators "suggest" that students not work at all. I "suggest" that they talk to my landlord. :rotfl:

I now work nights at a casino in San Diego. Not attending school is driving me nuts. I haven't heard anything yet, either.

Working full time and attending N.U will be a crazy experience. I have worked and attended nursing school before, but not N.U. It is fast pace and 3 days a week (Oct2008-1 day of lecture (9am-230pm) and 2 days of lab (7am-3pm), that's 8 hours, ya'll). This does change towards the end of the class; for 2-3 weeks you do clinicals. These clinicals are located in San Diego; they include Scripps Memorial, Sharps, and some other hospitals. I will just pray and ask God to guide me; this going to be one heck-of-a ride.:scrm:

Hey Mommalumps,

I'll be joining you October this year...I got my acceptance package a week or two ago!! Since you have already been into the mix i was wondering if your financial aid package from the school/government was generous... I am moving down to San Diego from Santa Cruz in August and don't know what im going to do about work and bills and such (my economic stimulus check wont go very far...LOL!) I am planning on taking the federal loans that they give me and then using Salliemae for the rest. Then I can focus on RENT!

I am also trying to find a cool place to live (Preferably near some surf spots). You say the clinicals are @ Scripps and Sharp. What are some good central locations between clinicals and Rancho Bernardo? With gas @$4 i cant afford to be driving all over the place.

Any Information Can Help!

I would say Solana Beach, which is prolly in the middle of both. If you choose to live closer to the hospitals, you could do UTC / La Jolla or maybe even Pacific Beach.

Really depends on your budget as these places will be a bit high for rent.

And congrats!

Thanks for the info.

Yeah i just looked at rents in those places on Craigslist...i i might just have to bite the bullet and tough it out inland a little bit for the twenty months of school. I think i will try and be closer to the clinicals and the hospitals since it seems like we spend more time there!

Surfinbri,

I'm moving from northern California too. Well at least I HOPE I am. I want to get into the Oct slot however due to transcript delays I was only able to get my application in around April time. I'm concerned that I'll end up being put into Jan instead. Good for saving more money but I'm anxious to leave my parents house since I wasn't really excited to move back here in the first place.

I've been looking a lot at Craig's list for places however I didn't know where the clinical stuff would be till I found this site so it looks like I have a narrower search now. If I do wait till Jan then I may hit you up to find out what areas you looked at and or what area you moved to since you would be moved before me, if you don't mind of course.

I've seen NU students at Kaiser Zion which is on Mission Gorge Road and also at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa which is in East County. I would not move to a beach area as they are expensive and not centrally located to most of the hospitals where you would be doing your clinicals.

That makes me sad...I've been living a walk away from the beach for the last 7 years...In quirky Santa Cruz too. I was down there in Escondido and knew immediately that i couldn't live there will all the strip malls and chain stores. Someone else was saying that NU students also go to Sharp and Scripps hospitals so I might try and live in Hillcrest-I hear that place is pretty Santa Cruzy. And it seems more centrally located.

I also wanted to ask you where you work as an ER tech. I have been volunteering in the ER up here for the last year or so and just got my EMT cert too. I am hoping to get a job as a tech down there. Know of any places hiring?

And my advice to Autumnofage is: BE PATIENT! The admissions process is easy but they take a long time to get back to you, and are not the easiest people to get a hold of.

Peace all-

Hey I've been to Santa Cruz many times. Used to live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Hillcrest and NorthPark are where it's happening down here :)

I'll PM you about where I work and my job. :heartbeat

Reading forums are a bad idea.

I was reading back and looking at people who have been rejected and people talking about their GPA's and now my optimism for getting in is low. Also the wait is so much worse now so my advice; don't ever look back on the forum if you're waiting to hear back! oi

:banghead: The whole nursing application process anywhere is stressful..Stay optimistic and just let things happen..It will eventually. I started off only applying to entry level masters programs. After many hours filling out applications and hundreds of dollars later I got rejected by every single one! Something will happen soon and you will be that much more relieved when it does....just be patient!

so i just recently submitted my nursing application to NU about 2 weeks ago. i'm stressing out! i have A's in Anatomy and Physiology and am in Micro right now. (it's the only pre req i have left)...my gpa is about a 3.4. has anyone here been accepted/rejected from NU that wants to share their gpa, grades, accuplacer scores etc....thanks that would be appreciated :coollook:
