National University San Diego

Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

so i just recently submitted my nursing application to NU about 2 weeks ago. i'm stressing out! i have A's in Anatomy and Physiology and am in Micro right now. (it's the only pre req i have left)...my gpa is about a 3.4. has anyone here been accepted/rejected from NU that wants to share their gpa, grades, accuplacer scores etc....thanks that would be appreciated :coollook:

I start in a couple of weeks Fall 2008 cohort...im moving to San Diego this week! But here is my info:

UCSC Undergrad GPA: 3.42

A/P, micro, Communication psych: 4.0

Accuplacer:

Reading comp-119

Sentence Skills-112

Algebra-118

College Math-68 (was a little rusty on pre calc)

As I said before just be patient with NU they are slow at letting you know any information and they are hard to get a hold of if you want to talk to someone. But I am stoked to start my program! I can't wait. You have good grades just be patient.

Hey everyone,

I just spent a couple of hours reading postings on NU and other BSN programs in San Diego (where my parents live, thus saving much-needed cash for nursing school). I'll be getting my BA from UCSC (eh Surfbri?) in the spring and although my major is pretty time-consuming, I'm hitting myself now for not having taken any prerequisites in the recent past. I'm going to try knocking as many as I can out of the way now, but at UC there are prerequisites to take the prerequisites for nursing, e.g. microbiology requires that I take biochem, which requires o-chem, and intro bio with labs (ok, did the latter in community college, but still...). So I'm going to try taking physio and anatomy at the local CC, Cabrillo--but not this quarter since UCSC starts Sept. 20 and Cabrillo starts next week.

I understand that National has programs that start four times per year. Does anyone happen to know what the approximate application due dates are for each? (National doesn't give much info on its website). Is it still true about all the waiting to hear from NU? That may give me time to catch up with things.

Thanks

thanks bri for responding to my post. so your 3.42 gpa...how many units does that cover? did you get a bachelor's degree? or did you just do all your pre reqs and such at ucsc? thanks girl. :) ps- when did you apply to national's nursing program and then when did you hear back? good luck with the program and congrats on being accepted!:nurse:

I just applied to National this spring and was rejected to the nursing program. I'm aiming for OU now. I don't know how they choose the nursing students. A few of my friends got in with worse GPA and worse Accuplacer than me. It's a pretty competitive process. I wish you all luck getting in!

Here is my info:

Southern NH University Undergrad GPA (BS degree): 3.57

A&P 1 and 2, micro, sociology at NU: 4.0

Accuplacer:

Reading comp-116

Sentence Skills-116

Algebra-100

College Math-60 (had a hard time with the advanced math even though I studied a ton and took college alebra a few years ago).

I've heard that it is a California requirement that all nursing schools administer the TEAS test now. Is NU going to be implementing that? Anyone here taken the TEAS for National?

Hello all,

I just got accepted to NU a few weeks ago. :) I will be starting the July 09 cohort. I took all of my pre req's at City College. I have a 3.75 in my sciences, 3.5 overall. As for the placement test- I didn't fair that well on the math section, (I seriously could not remember very basic math, fractions and percentages...) I think I did OK on the algebra, it wasn't rediculously hard, though. I have taken stats already, and got an A. But in terms of hearing back, it took a good 3 months, and I called and pestered them, trying to get answers in the mean time. I applied right in the middle of their begining to restructure their program. So I am glad I applied when I did, because I have a feeling it's going to take longer to get in from now on. Especially since SDSU is not accepting applications for any academic programs for Spring 09.

Anyhow, I am very happy to have gotten accepted, but be warned, the people at admissions department are not helpful!! If you have questions, direct them to the nursing department only.

And one quick question- is it true you can sit for NCLEX, and be working as a nurse while still attending the program? I had not heard that before...

I am currently an NU nursing student(graduating in may 09)... you can sit for your boards early after leadership but not advised by BRN or NU. license will indicate that you are a non-degreed RN. and it will NEVER change... so i wouldn't advise anyone taking their boards early before you actually get your degree.

Try and get those classes done at cabrillo as quickly as possible. The pre nursing classes there are very impacted ( as is the nursing program) and they fill up quickly! National has rolling admissions and you can apply at any time. If you are accepted they will place you in a cohort and supposedly register you for your classes. I decided to pick up and move down here because of the lack of a waitlist. I will be done with the BSN program before my friend at Cabrillo even starts her program. (She is on the Cabrillo Waitlist) You are right about the lack of information that is available and that doesn't change even after you are accepted. Classes for me start in less than a month and I still have not been enrolled in classes, know my schedule or clinicals, and have not received a financial aid report yet. Orientation is next week so hopefully some more information is coming. Good luck with your pre reqs! Have fun back up there in Santa Cruz: the real Surf City USA!

Thanks Bri, for the info and encouragement.

I know there's orientation at NU tomorrow and I've left a couple messages for people (unfortunately later than I would have liked). I have work tomorrow in the morning and am not sure about either the time or locale of the orientation. If you (or anyone else) knows the details, I'd greatly appreciate a posting, if you can, before tomorrow. It's not the end of the world if not though; I'm not going to be attending the prog. for a little while, but thought it would be a good idea to pick up some much glossed-over information.

Cheers

The orientation I am attending is for admitted students in the October cohort. You should apply to the university first then apply to the nursing program when you have finished the prereqs. The application for nursing program can be found at http://www.nu.edu click on "Academic" >"Schools"> "health and human services" >"nursing" and nursing application. there is also more information on the various types of programs they offer.

Cheers!

I'm a newly admitted student at Nat. U., but I'm still taking my pre req. classes at a CC. Hopefully I will finish all the pre. reqs. by spring of next year, then I will apply for the nursing program. What are the chances of me getting in the October cohort? Also, I have a some questions about the new BSN admission process:

-What's the proctored essay. Is the subject standard or does it change?

-What's the TEAS?

...Besides the fact that nursing programs are competetive everywhere in California, it seems that N.U is adding extra bars to the admission process just to make EVEN more money.

I don't believe National is trying to make the process to enroll more difficult to make more money. The process isn't anymore difficult than before, if anything, it's begining to be more structured. They only have a certain number of seats per cohort, and when you are doing clinicals, by law, there can only be a certain number of nursing students per unit. But, because SDSU isn't taking apps. for next spring, you can bet there are going to be many more people trying to get into National. Applying for nursing school is never easy, no matter what school you choose! I am not sure when you will get into the program though, AsaNisiasa. If it helps, I applied 1 month before the changes, in June, and have been accepted to the July 09 cohort. Good luck with everything.
