  1. I am also a new grad who was hired on the spot at a 55+ bed AL and mainly I've just been prepping, passing, and charting meds. As the post above me mentioned, there aren't a lot of skills, and as a new grad I feel that it would be more beneficial to at least start at a SNF...but of course I took what I could get and my supervisor was well aware of that. I’ve only been there for about two weeks and I already feel like quitting because of all the red flags I’ve been noticing. It feels unsafe to be the only nurse handling 55+ residents and I don't have a nurse manager, don, or RN supervisor to turn to (during the interview I was under the impression that there would be one)…and my supervisor is not a nurse. Every time I come in, my nurse will constantly vent about all the issues going on, how she’s ready to leave, how dangerous it is to be working there, etc. which stresses me out and makes me want to quit. For the sake of my license, the smart thing would be to get out and run…but at the same time I keep telling myself to just hang in there because it hasn’t even been a month yet, and if I can't even handle working at AL, then what more at a SNF or hospital.
  2. I hope so! Just don't want to get my hopes up...good luck to you!!
  3. I don't know what to think right now, I'm just mentally exhausted! I was getting so frustrated during the exam because I kept anticipating when it would shut off but at the same time I knew I was going to get all 265 q's. I used up all the time to answer the q's that I don't even think my 265th submitted :\ Anyways, I tried the PVT trick and I did get the good pop up!! but of course I'm still a little skeptical...after all I didn't even answer the last question :\ has anyone had a similar experience in not being able to answer all the questions and still pass?? I'm thinking too much into this now...def need to distract myself for the next 48 hrs!
  4. Just needed a place to vent. The one thing every student looks forward to is graduation and the only thing standing between me and that is my exit exam. This final sem has been one huge emotional roller coaster. I'm exhausted, emotionally and mentally. It feels pretty impossible to pass right now, especially after 3 attempts. I have one more shot before graduation or else I can't walk I know that once I get out in the field, this exam will be a distant memory and it won't matter how well I did or how many times I took it, but who wants to miss out on graduating from nursing school. It's hard to just "get over it" because I'm really cutting it close and I've already passed all my nursing classes. I'm just struggling to accept where I'm at right now...pretty devastated.
  5. Hi! It depends because each question is weighed differently...but if this helps I've gotten 40-50 q's wrong and have scored in the 800's. Ironically, my hesi score was higher (>850) for the one I got 50+ wrong than the one with 40+ wrong. If math is a weakness, do some practice questions with that because those are weighed heavily...also doing NCLEX practice questions and reading the rationales for both your right and wrong answers is also very helpful. Others also swear by Evolve and their case studies...good luck!
  6. hi! what did you think about the "hesi hints" from the evolve hesi book? or did you mostly focus on practice questions? I've done sooo many questions, but getting the hang of what those hesi questions are asking is so difficult because I've always found their wording to be kinda weird :/ ps. congrats by the way!! :)
  7. Hi mommalumps! Yeah, I actually finally found that application a while back after going through a bunch of links and whatnot! Thanks! But anyways, I think they changed their application process because it says I have to have everything complete before I can apply, so yeah I'll just have to wait. What classes did you take so far at NU and what were they like? What were the class sizes and how were the teachers and other students? Since I'm taking general classes at a university, the class sizes are pretty large (some 100+, others 300-400 more or less, but of course labs/discussions are a much smaller size). California seems like a nice place to live, and after living through blistering winters, I'd like to have a warm winter for once . I just want to try something new, for a change (not just for weather though! haha). I have family there, at least! :loveya: I might get overwhelmed, buuuut I'm pretty sure things will fall into place :). Well, hope to hear from you soon and thanks! Take care!
  8. Mommalumps!! First off, thanks sooooo much for taking the time to answer my questions!! You've been a HUGE help!! Nursing is such a competitive field nowadays Kudos to you for taking up this course, especially with kids!! I'm still too young :wink2: But anways, I wish you the BEST of luck!! I was wondering, though, how I can apply? Is there some application online or something? And if you don't get in the first time, do you have to apply again? Right now I'm currently taking organic chem, anatomy, and nutrition until December (I go to school in Chicago and moving to California:yeah:), so I think I have to wait til those are done because those are the main prerequisites for most nursing programs. But yeah, if I come up with anything else (I probably will :chuckle), I'll let you know...Take care!!
  9. Hi mommalumps!! I still need microbio, human anatomy II, oral communications, and ILR (yep, that computer class :typing ) How and when did you apply for the nursing program, and how long did you wait? Some other schools have applications online and also let you apply when you're still in the process of completing your prerequistes, as long as you provide your transcripts by deadline. But, according to my advisor, she said everything has to be done and then I could apply. Sooooo yeah, pretty confused now Btw, thanksss again for the info!!
  10. Hi mommalumps! Thanks for the info! and congrats and good luck to you, as well! :) I was wondering, did you complete your prerequisites at another school or at NU? From what I was told, I have to have ILR before I could apply for their nursing program, which is why I decided to go here. Any advice?
  11. not sure how to delete this! lol
  12. Hi! :) I'm hoping someone here can please answer my question because no one at the university has responded to me yet. I've been recently accepted into NU and was wondering if ALL your classes (i.e. ILR 260) have to be complete in order to apply for the nursing program? Or can you apply while you're still in the process of completing your prerequisites, like some other nursing schools.
