california license by endorsement

U.S.A. California

We have all heard how lengthy the California licensing by endorsement can be. I haven't found any new updated threads on this. What's your experience been in the California license by endorsement process?… I'm from NY and sent in my license for endorsement a month ago, which was the middle of December 2015. I think I'm looking at another 3 months from now. I didn't apply for the temporary license. They haven't cashed my check yet.

What's your status and how's the process going for you?

Thanks.

There seems to be a lot of confusion on getting a California RN license.

To provide some background: California always has to do things their own way. In the past year, they decided to replace the Board of Nursing computer system and this caused a lot of chaos and processing delays, as the new system is crappy and took a long time to get working properly. California takes longer than other states and it always has.

The only source of valid information on getting your California RN license is the Board of Registered Nursing (BORN) website. Yes, it can be complicated and confusing, but you must take the time to read all the information. There are no shortcuts. Here is the link:

Processing Times

In general it takes 10 to 12 weeks to get licensure by endorsement. You can get a temp license in 8 to 10 weeks. You can request a temp license at the same time you are requesting licensure by endorsement.

Livescan will definitely speed up processing. If you use a physical fingerprint card, it can take longer than 10 to 12 weeks.

You must physically come to California and get Livescan here. You can't use Livescan in another state for this purpose. Depending on your urgency, it may be worth it to fly or drive to California just to get a Livescan. I did this and got my temp RN license in 8 weekds and my permanent RN license in 12 weeks.

Great breakdown! It will be very helpful for those asking questions

Just wondering if anyone has any input as to how to submit the California licensure by endorsement application, they ask for many different documents.... are all these sent separately or gathered to send at the same time?

They have had my entire packet for more than a month and have not even cashed the check yet. It is so hard to be patient.

You started after me and are already passing me! lol I deeply regret mailing in the paper app. I should have done online. I was concerned about all the pieces getting there online.

Hello everyone! I am submitting my application this week I hope the military requirements really helps with expediting it. I am currently living in CA. I just got my NY license in the mail. I am mailing mine priority because I have some additional documents needed for review.

I just requested transcripts from my nursing school and from my other college to fulfill the "communications" requirement.

- Has anyone had issues with the transcripts? I have my NY RN license. My nursing program- A.S. didn't require speech... but I did take speech (3 credits) prior to the program would that be ok??

Also, for the Livescan fingerprints and license verification should I do that the same day I send the application or wait a while? It seems like some of you do that part after already sending the application.

For any military/veterans do they really expedite the process and if so how long was your process?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I need to get started on this LONNNNG process

Hey everyone,

Has anyone submitted their License for Endorsement application and qualified for the expedited service for being military/veteran? I am just wondering how long the process is for expedited application to California. Thanks!

I am sending my application with my DD214 this week! How long was your process?

Hey guys,

I sent in my application by mail, which i deeply regret, and sent everything required on sept 14 with a money order. Its been over 12 weeks and i checked the "processing times" website and it says the date i turned everything in has passed. Cant reach anyone on the phone and im starting to freak out. Job opportunities are passing me everyday. Also, before i submitted my application by mail i started it online and decided not to do it that way so when i check breeze account it says application incomplete.....ugh can someone help me and tell me if i should be worried or not

It does not have to be a speech/communication class specifically through a nursing program. It can be part of your general ed prior to nursing school or is sometimes a pre-req to nursing programs. I definitely did not take a communication class during nursing school and still got my out-of-state license endorsed to CA.

I just recently checked my account and saw that I've been issued my temporary license. Super excited! I think having doing the LiveScan definitely helped in that process.

hi all. Been awhile since I saw my original post, to those reading this now, December 2017, it took 4 months total to receive my CA license by endorsement.
