I am sure everyone knows this already, but this article was interesting. My friend in California tells me there aren't enough nurses even to fill the "cushy" insurance jobs. Here's the link...

My question--what is it going to take for these hard-headed and cold-hearted business people who have taken over health care to wake up????? They are incredibly arrogant and blind. They must think they have some magic "ace" up their sleeves? All we nurses want is control over our profession, a safe and manageable work environment, and decent wages and benefits. In the meanwhile, we continue to "vote with our feet," leaving the bedside in droves, and the crisis just grows worse by the minute....
Seems to me to be an opening for Independent RNs. Check out independentrn.com. What are we waiting for? The climate is so right to be negotiating our own terms and conditions. I'm not against unions and agencies; these serve the needs of many RNs. But so very many of us have the skills the health care conglomerates need and the skills to act as our own mini-agencies or small group practices. It can be a win-win situation if handled right.
