What states in the US (at present) do not require a local license as part of the NCLEX application (before one can sit for the NCLEX exam)?

Your reply would be very much appreciated. God bless you!

*Any updates on whether or not California now requires a local license this 2008? How true is this?

hi guys!

i am also having a problem regarding this newly implemented rule of the ca bon..i am a filipino and an immigrant here in ca...my nclex-rn application date was on december 2007 and last month i received a letter that they need a copy of my license (fyi:i didnt take the nle) ..so i sent dem my letter of explanation which was basically about my no intention to work there (cos i thot they'd still accept this)..and i just called dem recently cos i recently found out dat theyre requiring a local license and they said that they're still reviewing my letter..nd right now m praying hard that deyll grant my eligibility.. and to be fair i hope that they'll grant it beacuse my application date was on december '07 and dey implemented dis rule just january '08 and ca bon haven't even disseminated the info that they're really seriously requiring it and their website hasn't been updated.and also all my other batchmates who hasnt taken the nle have already passed nclex.

sorry for the long msg..my point is that they should have informed the applicants earlier about this and should have set a deadline of applicants and not just suddenly implementing it.right?

but again i hope deyl grant my eligiblity cos because of this im so anxious that i dont have the drive anymore to study.. im really worried..

(fyi:i really dont have d intention to work there cos my family has migrated here in ca)

hey there..i applied dec. 07 and i called them up and ask them about the letter and he said that i need to resend the letter again..so thats what i did.they replied back with the another letter saying that i need to contact PRC in Pi and ask them if they could send a letter to CA bon explaining that im exempted on nle...so thats what i did, but PRC told me that the only exception in not taking the NLE is when u are foreign nationale..since im just an immigrant here and not a US citizen yet..they said that im not exempted...i am really frustrated about this..but hey theres a lot of ways...dont give up.if they said that they are reviewing your letter then just wait..or start applying for CES already..and apply to a state which doesnt require license like hawaii, new mexico and nevada...they only require CES...yes im upset regarding my ca application but reality is reality they can change their requirement any time and pretty much other states will be doin it soon...so act now..dont just wait..

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

There was talk and someone posted on here approx Nov time that there was talk of Ca fetching this rule in. Even if you go to another state for licensure if the plan is to work in Ca they may still insist on it when endorsing your license

BON/BRN are entitled to demand local license and expect to see more and more states do it. There are not many countries now that do not require a local license as part of their requirements

thnx chet! wooohh dont know wat to do!!!! waaaah!! help!! :crying2::bluecry1::sniff:

that would be a good step for CALIFORNIA BON to require license from country of education. actually theres no reason for anyone not to take the license exam even if you dot want to practise it.

yes it is a good step dave..but i decided not to take it to stay away from the issues of the phil. nursing nle..the leakage and everything.. it really made such a big impact on the quality of nursing profession in the phils..

For all new members. Welcome.

okay fine...if they are requesting for the local license, thats just right but my question is what if you have a license and then when you applied for work in the u.s. (taking note that you have passed nclex already) but your local license is already expired, will cali BON still tell you to renew your license?

Good day!

I'm a BSN graduate of 2008 and recently took the nursing licensure examination here in the Philippines. I already have a U.S. visa (my family are U.S. immigrants already and we just filed for a 2-year reentry visa just so my siblings and I can finish our studies here) Anyhow, I would like to ask if I can apply and take the NCLEX here in the Philippines, my reentry visa expires next year, and I have to go back to the U.S. by September or October. Will that give me enough time to take the test?

And yes, how do I file for NCLEX?

Thank you so much.

You do not file or apply for NCLEX. You apply for licensure with a specific State BON or BRN and comply with their requirements. Each State BON will have their own set of rules, policies and requirements.

Please check out the stickies in the International and Philippine forum on how to go about it.

I am presuming you intend to apply for licensure to CA. You can go to their website and download their application form. The link to their website is on the stickies I mentioned. All instructions for foreign graduates are on their website and application forms.

As you may have read this thread already, you now know that CA BRN now strictly enforces proof of passing the NLE as a requirement, so if you want to apply to CA you have to wait for your results first before you do anything.

This new information regarding the CA BRN now requiring local NLE has really gotten me so worried right now! I just got back here to California 6 weeks ago, have started going to work while waiting for my licensure application to process, am financing a newly bought car, at the same time reviewing for the NCLEX! Having to go back to the Philippines just to take the local boards is gonna bring up a new slew of problems for me: time, energy, and MONEY! I always knew that I couldn't even take the local Philippine NLE since I'm not a Filipino citizen. Even all my instructors and level coordinators said that I wouldn't be able to take it since I'm a US Citizen. I've never heard from anyone that the PRC would allow a non-Filipino citizen to take the local NLE but simply wont issue a license to them. If that's truly the case, I'm really screwed! And I mean REALLY!

Are you a dual citizen or not? If you area dual-citizen, did you fully disclose that as well to PRC?

They might have thought that you are only an American Citizen because the only way I know for them to allow you to take the NLE but not give a license is if you were born in PI but later on renounced your Filipino Citizenship in lieu of being a US Citizen only.

This statement gave me a light of hope. I am a natural-born citizen of the USA born in Maryland. I am not a dual-citizen and have never established citizenry with the Philippines. Does this mean that I really can't sit the Philippine NLE at all? This is what I've always known from the start even before I came back in the Philippines to take up nursing. This is also exactly what I stated in my letter of explanation of why I don't hold a license in my country of instruction. Somebody please answer this question of mine...I'm really panicking here right now and want to be put out of my misery :(. A quick honest answer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
