California Board of Registered Nursing now requires local NLE

What states in the US (at present) do not require a local license as part of the NCLEX application (before one can sit for the NCLEX exam)?

Your reply would be very much appreciated. God bless you!

*Any updates on whether or not California now requires a local license this 2008? How true is this?

Do not register with Pearsonvue until you have received the OK from BON just in case there are any issues. Pearsonvue will send ATT once BON tells them to and some get it within hours whilst others wait a couple of days. Always check junk folder as many posted it went there

I believe it depends on which State BON you're applying licensure for. There are states that require you to register with Pearson vue first before you will be made eligible. One example is the Texas BON. But with Cali BRN, you should wait for your ELIGIBILITY before you register with Pearson vue.

Sure you can! Everyone is actually welcome to make their comments :D After a day? That's really fast!

TO EVERYONE:

Oh no, everything is going on too fast! I know it sounds stupid but I'm quite confused with the steps.. it says

1) Submit an application for licensure to the BON....

2) Meet the BON's eligibility requirements...

3) Register for NCLEX with Pearson Vue

4) Receive confirmation of Registration

5) The BON makes the candidate eligible to take the NCLEX

6) Receive ATT

My question lies in STEP 5. What does it mean when thee BON makes you eligible again? Will it take a long time?

Also, I've been reading stuff that it takes CA BON a longer time to process eligibility. Does this long wait for eligibility refer to STEP 2 or STEP 4?

Thanks!

You have to wait for CA BRN to give you the eligibility letter. CA BRN sends it via snail mail and usually comes with NCSBN's NCLEX Candidate booklet. The same time CA BRN sends the snail mail to you, they transmit one to pearson-vue to inform them that you are eligible already.

Sometimes, for some reason the snail mail may never reach the applicant but you can always e-mail the Boards to confirm if something was sent already. In these cases, you can register to Pearson-Vue so long the Board said you were made eligible. You don't have to wait for the snail mail that may never come. Applicants who one registers to Pearson-vue before CA BRN gave a signal that you are eligible will never receive their ATT.

However, I believe you already received those things ? If you did, you may register to Pearson-vue.

If you choose to register on-line and provided a valid e-mail add., you will get your actual ATT via e-mail and usually it gets sent within minutes after successful completion of registration on-line. Getting the ATT via e-mail after a day or so is actually not the norm.

Also, for CA. The data you provide in the on-line pearson-vue registration, including the e-mail add. must exactly match the data you gave in CA BRN's application packet. My guess is one of the reasons why some ATTs comes late for some is because of this.

Thanks Mobius Rain, jbc76, silverdragon and lawrence!!! Everything is crystal clear to me now. :)

You never want to register with Pearson-Vue until you know that your credentials will be accepted. Always wait until the CES has been issued and there are no areas that are missing something.

Texas does not do a thing with your application until they have the CES in hand first. This thread is also specific to issues with CA, we request that you keep this thread for remarks about CA only, or it can cause things to get missed or go off-topic from the subject this is being discussed. We still advise never to pay Pearson-Vue until you know that you will be accepted for licensure, and this is what we have already recommended for every state in the US, including Texas. This works for all of them.

And this is the same with most other states as well. If you do send money to Pearson-Vue and then are not accepted for licensure, there is no way to get your money returned to you, it is forfeited forever.

The length of time it would take for the BON to make you eligible will depend on the workload of the board. With so many people applying for licensure, it would probably take 2-3 months after they receive your application. I think the confusion lies with the existence of STEP 2. I believe this step simply means that you should be aware of all the boards' requirements before turning in an application for licensure. Just ignore STEP 2 ^.^! After the board reviews your application, they will notify you if your are eligible or not.

Regarding the ATT, I received mine via email like ONE MINUTE after I completed my registration, since I waited for my eligibility from the board before I registered with Pearson VUE.

hi i sent my application to the california board of registered nursing last July 14, 2008, with my explanation letter stating that I took the local board exams last June 1-2,2008 and do not have the results yet. Now, I already know that I passed the local board exams, but the license is still to be released on December. It appears from this thread that I need to send them a copy of my local license. Can I just send them a copy of my certificate from PRC? Thanks.

the cali bon want the copy of your prc license number not a certification that you passed the exam. since you dnt have a license yet i guess your application will in pending status until a copy of your prc license is sent to them.:loveya:

thank you for the quick reply. does that mean i have to wait for my license to come out this december? wont they discard my application papers while im waiting?

ok. thank you very much :yeah:

Hi misty dawn,

I am also planning to send my application to California. As far as I know, CaBON accepts certificate of passing in lieu of the license. That's what my nursing classmates did. They sent their application in July and received their eligibility in September. To the second coursers who already submitted their application, Did you have to ask your previous school to send your transcript? or the transcript from your nursing school was enough? Thanks!
