Calhoun Comm College Fall 2015

Published

We've got several months until application time opens for Fall 2015. I assume it'll open sometime in May, maybe April if we're lucky! Does anyone already have it on their brain like I do  Hoping to make it in the program for Fall 2015 & would love to chat with some other folks that have ants in their pants too!

There's three of us in this thread with a score of exactly 225, how interesting....and scary. lol

Well Jahosafat, that just means that we'd all get in according to their process. Lol. Let's just hope there's not many people with 250 and up.

We'd all get in or all not [insert dramatically worried emoji here]. Down with the 250's!

Jk, jk

.........but seriously

I was just telling my hubby the same thing. Either it's awesome or we are all screwed lol!

Lol @jahosafat...but seriously!

Well goodness I hope yall are lucky because yall have more points than I do! I hate that we have no clue what the average person has since the new system.

So Guys,

I turned my application today ! Nervous Excited at the same time.

My plans changed last minute though, I took the compass test and I didn't get the scores high enough to get into MTH 100 BY 3 POINTS !!!!!!! I didn't have the time to retest. So I decided I will just apply for PN see what happens. However I was discouraged from applying for PN. Several people I've talked too seem to look at me like I was stupid for even considering PN. Like being an LPN is terrible. Trust me I want to do RN. However I don't feel like waiting any longer to do it. I need to do something. So....... we will see . Any insight on PN Program, good idea, bad idea?

On another note. I went in to turn my application today literally minutes before the office closed, and the secretary was already putting in names & scores in the spreadsheet, there were about 30 names so far. So fingers crossed that it will a less than 6 weeks wait!!! Oh & Someone was also denied because they did not include the unofficial transcript in their application packet, something that simple ! ( I happened to glance down at the desk & that was written in red on their application didn't see a name or anything)

& From the nursing advising workshop couple weeks ago they stated that :

100 RN SLOTS

50 PRN SLOTS

32 LPN SLOTS

are what they are aiming for.

**NOT SURE HOW CONCRETE THAT WAS, BUT THAT IS WHAT WE WERE TOLD THAT DAY**

ConfidentinHim, I dont think you should be discouraged whatsoever. I am currently work with tons of LPNs, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being an LPN. Keep your chin up. You are still on the path to RN so you're still following your dream. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I really wish you the best in whatever ends up happening. Hopefully our wait won't be too terribly long. Sending hugs to you friend!

Oooooooh you got some good intel lol! Awesome! !

Well I don't think the LPN route is stupid. I have a cousin that is doing that right now at Wallace. She failed her first semester in another school's ADN program and transferred. She is doing so much better at Wallace and will bridge over to the RN program in the fall. You should have taken a chance and applied for both. Some schools will even offer you the LPN option if you just miss the cut off for the ADN program.

@confidentinhim I understand the feeling..."missed it by this much!"

As far as the LPN thing, don't let someone else's opinions keep you from doing what you want. Go ahead with LPN if you'd like. If taking action now is important to you, go for it! If time is more important, take a look at the program lengths. LPN is 3 semesters. LPN to RN (mobility something or other) is 4 semesters. So if you went that route, you're looking at 7 semesters total.

If you waited a semester to get that math score up and got in to the RN program directly, it would be 5 semesters of school plus the one semester you waited...a total of 6 semesters. That would save you a few months (and tuition) in the long run. But you run the risk of hinging it all on getting in next semester. Either way, you keep at your goals and you'll be fine no matter what type of discouraging looks you get :)

Keep at it, and good luck!

There is nothing wrong with an LPN. They are nurses just like RNs. I say shoot for it if its something that you wanna do right now until you can get your math score up enough!

Thank you guys so much for the encouragement ! Means alot ! Now its a waiting game ....Gotta find something else to consume my mind ! :banghead:
