Anyone planning on applying to the Spring 2011, CSUSM, accelerated ABSN program? Just wondering if there is anyone else out there:)
I just got an e-mail that I am accepted into the Fall 2010 cohort!! :)
The e-mail had no date as to when exactly the cohort would begin or when the orientation is.
Does anyone on here know?
Congrats to everyone who has also been accepted! I look forward to meeting all of you!!
Good luck to everyone else who is applying :)!!!!
Hi I was just accepted to the Fall 2010 cohort on Friday.
I was also told that classes would begin on Monday ( a week from today)!! I'm from out of town and was wondering what everyone else in the program was doing as far as living situations?
Looking forward to meeting everyone in the program.
Hmmm, or maybe trying to work out living arrangements. :) I'm rethinking the whole commuting idea...not sure if it would be a great idea, especially since I was thinking of taking two trains (Coaster and Sprinter) there. Those might not be flexible toward my schedule when clinicals start up and all.

Congrats on your acceptance for Spring 2011, bethankful! I'm now joining the thread and am wondering if anyone else has heard news for Spring 2011? I received my evaluations letter, but they made a mistake so I sent an email 2-3 weeks ago and then called yesterday. As of yet, I haven't received a response and I'm getting a bit antsy.
Also, is there anyone else out there who took mammalian physiology classes at UCSD? If so, did they qualify for the physiology prereq at CSUSM? At the info session, I was informed these classes would qualify, but then my advisor requested a syllabus for my comparative physiology class instead...
Thank you!!
Hi thank you
I am in the Fall 2010 cohort and they are busy still trying to figure out bits and pieces of our cohort so they are very busy in the office.
Good luck with your application for 2011.

Hi happyhanks- i think they are using the point system. They did for Fall 2010, and those with the highest points are getting acceptance letters first for Spring 2011, and so on. I am hoping to get one of them, but I won't be in the first round with the highest point earners. The deadline has come and gone for applications, so what is in, is in :)

With the application deadline for spring, 2011 past, I am wondering about potential news from the university to those that are applying?. I have my application in for the cohort, and have everything done except A&P II, which will be IP this fall (completed prior to admission). I am guessing I will be at ~42 points, with the big variable being how many qualified applicants, with everything already completed (nothing IP), are applying to the same cohort.

As far as the poster commenting on the chaotic/disorganized nature of the ABSN, I will echo the sentiments someone already expressed, those being the program is still new and working out the "kinks". That said, a fantastic indicator of a program's quality, new or otherwise, is the NCLEX pass-rate for the school, found here:
http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/passrates.shtml
CSUSM posts a 95.35% pass-rate, placing it in the top tier of schools in CA. However, the data for CSUSM does not differentiate between BSN and ABSN, making it unclear if the data is accurate for the ABSN program.
I noticed a post earlier in this thread indicated that 33 points was the minimum the program was looking for - wondering if anyone else can verify/update this observation? Obviously, as the program gets more popular, that number will climb upward.
Here's to hoping for good news for spring 2011! :)
