Cal State San Marcos, CSUSM, Accelerated, ABSN 2011

Published

Anyone planning on applying to the Spring 2011, CSUSM, accelerated ABSN program? Just wondering if there is anyone else out there:)

Hmm, I didn't get the email. Maybe try resending it? =/

I just resent it. If you don't get it, check the address you gave me :)

I just got it! I'll email you back right now :)

Yes, I have been accepted. Most likely going to put in my enrollment deposit tonight. I'd like to know about others who've been accepted as well...would love to get to know everyone. :) Oh, and with a young program like San Marcos', some disorganization is to be expected. My counselor tells us we are the 7th cohort after all. I heard they're getting better though. Besides, anything is better compared to the debacle occurring with SDSU's ABSN program, or lack thereof now.

If the SDSU you are referring to is San Diego state University their accelerated program just had their license pulled. They would be admitting their first cohort in June but also have September and January admissions. Make sure before you apply for their accelerated program that they have been licensed again.

Yeah, I am talking about San Diego State. :) That's the "debacle" to which I was referring.

They actually just never got the program approved. The chancellor didn't approve it but they received all other approvals. The program doesn't exist anymore so there is no way to apply, bu for those that were accepted into the first cohort, they extended the offer to allow us to join the traditional 2 year BSN program at SDSU>

Luckybella, you were on the SDSU ABSN thread as well, right? I think I saw your name there. I just never posted. Is it me or was that thread closed down? I can seem to access it anymore. Oh, and unfortunately, I'm one of those SOLs who never got word back either way from SDSU. I'm still waiting for a call from the student services coordinator at the SON regarding the traditional BSN at SDSU. They probably don't have anymore room but even if I was offered a seat, I'd still be wary and gun-shy because of what happened. They really dropped the ball on this one. I'm just so glad that I have a back up plan in San Marcos. I was considering working as an EMT for a year while waiting for the next application cycle or something. So I'm assuming you got offered a spot in the traditional program? What are you going to do?

Yes, I was on that thread. I think the thread was closed down...I think it violated terms of service or something. I know they started talking about lawsuits which I'm sure isn't good to have on the forums, so that may be a reason. I'm sorry to hear you never got word back. Unfortunately, I don't think SDSU is going to extend this option to those who never heard back, which really sucks. I don't think they have the resources for it. You are lucky to be accepted at San Marcos, since it's a guaranteed spot and it probably won't be as crazy as the situation we are going through right now, even with a little disorganization. I did get offered a spot in the traditional program and I accepted it. For San Marcos, I'd have to take one more prereq and I wouldn't finish until December, but with SDSU I'd be able to start in August. I'd honestly take either school. I just hope everything works out but she did say she'd send more information in a week or so after the deadline to accept a spot has passed and she knows how many more of us there will be. Otherwise, I'd have to take the last prereq and hope I get into San Marcos for Spring 2011.

Did you already accept your offer to CSUSM?

Yeah, it does suck but I'm glad I got the other offer. I guess these types of things happen for a reason. :) A little disorganization doesn't bother me too much. For anything really, as long as you stay on top of things, it shouldn't be too bad. Congratulations on getting into the traditional program! Is it going to be 2 years? I heard from others that it might be 2.5 years but that maybe you guys could work something out to get it down to 2 years. When is the deadline to accept the spot? I haven't accepted my CSUSM offer but I'm thinking of doing so within the next few days for sure. I have until June 28th to do so. I don't know why I haven't just let go and do it already. :p I guess I'm just waiting as much as I can to see if I get any more official news from SDSU. Ideally, it would be nice to go to school in SD, I even volunteer at Alvarado Hospital, which is right there near SDSU, but commuting to San Marcos would not be bad at all. I have friends who live in North County anyway. Despite all the uncertainty, I really hope things work out for you and the others who were offered a spot in the traditional program! :)

Thanks! The disorganization would not bother me either. I'm sure San Marcos will be a great program! I heard that the program will be 2 years now, since they will have a summer session for our cohort. The deadline to accept the spot is also on the 28th! Aw, so you are really close to SDSU huh? Well, at least the CSUSM offer is to San Marcos and not their Temecula location! I actually live more North County-ish, so SDSU will be more of a commute, but it won't be too bad. I really hope that things work out for you as well, and you have an amazing experience with whichever program you end up in :)

Thanks for the clarification guys! My Aunt works there and she gave me the heads up right after I applied. I am so sorry to hear what happened.
