  1. Having a bad preceptorship experience. Need encouragement.

I first want to apologize that you are having the most useless experience in your preceptorship. To try to make it better you might ask if you can shadow X nurse (someone you have seen excel in the unit and perhaps look up to?) for the day. If this g...
  2. Did you get anything?

I have a friend who treated herself to a new car and personalized plates with her name and RN on it. 5 years later she is mortified about it and cant wait to change her plates. Don't get something to flashy that you may want to hide later. A coffee ...
  3. Has airforce stopped recruiting nurses?

My coworker just got back from Afghanistan and said the military is desperate for nurses now. I have always wanted to work trauma and have been considering the military as well. Hope you find whats right for you!
  4. Soooo... Are you at a disadvantage at NS? I think I am.

Sorry man, I think a lot of us here (myself included) assume everyone one posting is a chick until informed otherwise. For the clinicals that are like an hour away I'm 99% sure your preceptor will ask you to drive together, otherwise 1/2 through the...
  5. Soooo... Are you at a disadvantage at NS? I think I am.

At my school at least we all meet on campus and go to clinicals together so we dont clutter up the already jammed paring lot with a million cars. You may be able to just ride with your clinical group. Try to get a part time job to help out with bills...
  6. It's actually NOT so bad!

I start in January and this is great info! I am glad that you confirmed that everything I was going to do is actually helpful and not a gigantic waste of time. Thanks!
  7. Loans and no options

I totally understand feeling like you have no options. You really may have more than you think, you just have to be creative. Finding a college you can afford and you can get into would be my first priority. Then I would look at housing. Why is it th...

  9. I Must Be Crazy...

I would advise taking as many electives that you like as long as they leave enough time for core classes. As far a patho and pharm go I would not take any other electives that semester, pharm is not so bad but patho can be a full time job by itself l...
  10. Think I Bombed the NLN-RN Today :'(

I took the NLN a few weeks ago and left the test thinking "well everything went well, until the test started". I didnt take long at all for the NLN to get my scores back so that was delightful. I am not a good guesser or anything lucky like that, I'm...
  11. Direct Entry MSN program

This school is super competitive in EVERY aspect of application but with rocking credentials like that you should at least get your foot in the door at Marquette University in Milwaukee Wi. If you want more info on the school or anything just PM me.
  12. Diagnosed with MS

My mom has MS and has since she was 2. She has a mild case of MS but that is not to say that it does not affect her. I say as long as you can continue your dream. If you need to take a semester off. Your school will (almost always) let you take medic...
  13. Gift for male preceptor

I would maybe get him a coffee tumbler and some coffee accessories like biscotti or some flavored creamers. Then if you wish you can add a small gift card to mcdonald's if you wish.
  14. HIV+ student concerned about drug testing while taking Marinol

You cannot be discriminated against for HIV status at all. Your drug test might be positive and your medication prescriptions should clear you name. Just in case I would get a letter from your primary care provider stating that these medications are ...
  15. Health promotion and wellness is my degree and it is NOT competitive to get into. I live in the midwest and went to school in Minnesota for my degree. I love it and can still work in a hospital etc. Competitive salaries at hospitals start around 60K ...
