Cal State San Marcos, CSUSM, Accelerated, ABSN 2011

Published

Anyone planning on applying to the Spring 2011, CSUSM, accelerated ABSN program? Just wondering if there is anyone else out there:)

Hi LLBorntoserve! No, I have not heard anything from the school and I put in my deposit over a week ago. I did get a confirmation email for my deposit though. And yes, I can totally help you and Keri find a place. A house would be ideal because it is pretty cheap to rent here (compared to SD or OC or LA). Hopefully someone else will post something on here that they are looking for roommates in the next couple months.

Same here. I haven't heard anything from them. Maybe it's too soon at this time for any updates. By the way, have you applied for loans yet? If I am not mistaken, the total tuition cost for the 2-year BSN program at San Marcos is about $35,000? I am thinking about private lenders (maybe through the banks?), but I am afraid the interest rates are high :( I will contact the financial office tomorrow to see which type of loan is best for my situation.

P.S. My name is Tiffinie

Tiffinie- I did call the fin. aid department and until our classes for Spring registration are in our portal we won't be able to apply for loans. I was going to see what rates I get through government loans with the FA department because their rates are going to be the best compared to private loans. Whatever funding I need after that I will probably apply for private loans. You can get funding through private loans within a day or two. I am hoping to get deferred payments (no payments or interest) until 6 months after graduation. So, that would give us enough time during school to figure out how we are going to pay these loans off (crossing my fingers for some scholarships). And yup....about 35,000 (with books, and software and all that)

Sounds good Tiffinie! Hopefully we can find a couple more people and get a house- that would be great! I've been looking at Craigslist for housing in Temecula and it is really cheap so that's good news. I would like to start looking in December and hopefully just start a lease at the beginning of January- that would still give us a couple weeks to get settled in before classes start. I got an email today with the information on applying to CSUSM and getting our online account set up. I'm assuming we can start working on our financial aid after that. So excited!

I started looking on Craiglist today for a 1-bedroom apartment and found it really cheap too. The apartment complex is called Temecula Gardens Apartments, which is located about 7 minutes away from our campus. If it's me and you in the end, I think this place is wonderful-- cheap and close to our school. Below is a link for your information: SAVE $150 EA. MONTH W/LEASE. I plan to start looking sometime in December too. We'll continue to stay in touch and arrange to meet up for housing search.

for those of you who have been accepted, could you just give a run down of your cum gpa, pre req gpa, and other pertinent info that you think may have contributed to your acceptance? I'm 3 pre-reqs away from applying and would like to know what my chances are.

BTW, a big congrats to all of you :D

I posted my scores on page 14. If you have any specific questions please feel free to PM me. Goodluck I hear this is an excellent school.

Sounds great Tiffinie! Although in my previous shared living experiences I have found that I need my own room so maybe a two bedroom if it's just us? It looks like they're about 100$ more a month...We'll keep in touch- my email is [email protected] :-) If anyone out there is reading this and is looking for roommates for spring semester let us know!

Keri

Hi Tiffinie and Keri! I got my orientation information (it is Jan 11), did you guys get yours? Also, there is a house on my street for rent, it is 4 bedrooms, and big kitchen, living room, family room, dining room. It is the same model as mine. The houses are only 3 years old, and it might be renting furnished.

aggiepack-my overall GPA wasn't very good, 3.1 and my CORE was 3.16, I did get all A's in my sciences and maths, and my TEAS was 85%. I was told the average of those accepted was 80% on the TEAS. Good luck to you! I wish you the best!

Hi keri and tiffanie

My name is Megan and i also got accepted into the spring 2011 program !!! yay. im so excited but i have so many questions, like where to live and how the heck to pay for school. where r u girls from. im from central coast CA. probably looking to move in the first week in Jan.

To aggiepack: My overall GPA for my undergrad degree was 3.32, and my core GPA was 3.46, and overall TEAS score was 85%.

To Sarah_V: I got my email in regards to orientation day yesterday, and it's on Jan 13 from 8-12. I guess we won't be seeing each other at the orientation. Remember to complete the University application on CSUmentor. There's a deadline for it. The email I received from Veronica indicated that the deadline is 11/8. Thanks for letting me know about the house. Right now, it's still me and Keri who want to roommate (and maybe Megan?). Let's hope there will be more people so we can rent the house. Please update us if it's rented out to somebody else before us.

To Megan: Congrats! I am from Orange County, and will be living off campus. I could commute (1.5 hr), but it's such a hassle. Keri and I were thinking about two housing options:

1) rent a 2-bedroom apartment if it's just me and her

2) rent a house (4-5 bedrooms) if more people

You can contact the financial office for helpful information about loans/grants/financial aid. I believe they can tell you what type of loan program is most suitable for you based on your income, if you want to pay back at low interest rates, amount of years you would like to play back, etc...
