Cal State Northridge CSUN Accelerated BSN Fall 2008

Published

I applied for CSUN's accelrated fall 2008 program and simply wanted to let others know I'm online to bounce ideas around.

It would be great to hear your stories going through the interviewing and acceptance process. Who knows, hopefully we'll even be classmates together this fall...

how was your interview for the Accelerated BSN program at CSUN, have they finish interviewing everyone for the summer and fall term? I am nervous because I have not heard anything yet, let me know

k.lazarz79, are you sure it was acceptance to the A-BSN program and not just acceptance to the university?

levoila, congrats getting an interview with csun! how did it go? i'm sure you were great! can you please tell us what questions they asked you? thank you!!

I sent in my application the day it was due and received my acceptance letter a month later, around the 15 of Feb or so.

Are you sure that wasn't just an acceptance to the university? I also received a large envelope around that time in February, but it was only to inform me that I was admitted to the university as a graduate student.

I think the interview went well. I was incredibly nervous at first, but they spent a few minutes helping me relax, which looking back, means I must have looked as nervous as I felt.

They were very friendly. I was interviewed by three female professors, but I can't remember their names! If anyone remembers their names, please post them. One of them confused me with another student, and I mistakenly thought she was introducing herself as that name. Then one of the other members of the panel corrected her and said "no, this is ..." It kind of threw me for a few seconds, but then I was able to calm down. I think I was too excited and maybe spoke too fast.

My advice is to think of things that set you apart from the rest of the applicants and have concrete examples of those things. When they asked me something to that effect I kind of froze for a few seconds. I began describing qualities, but I didn't mention ones that I would have liked too just because I got too nervous.

Good luck everyone!!

I remember that they were only going to ask three questions. I was so nervous though that I don't remember exactly what they were. They were very friendly, spoke softly, and were understanding.

I remember something to the effect of "this is an intensive program that will take 70-80 hours per week--are you up to the challenge?"

"what distinguishes you from the other applicants?"

I can't remember the third one--just think about what makes you unique. So that you have examples ready when the opportunity presents itself.

Good luck!!

Friday, March 13th was the first day of interviews. They told me that they were planning on interviewing more people next week and that after that they would be discussing the candidates. There is still hope!! Hang in there!

There are lots of possible interview questions on this website and online in general. Look up those questions and try to answer them. If you volunteer in a hospital, you might have observed some of the situations that typical questions address. I suggest going through this process because it will help you come up with concrete examples that you've experienced and give you something concrete to talk about. You can also mention how you would handle things better/differently, which can help you highlight your strengths.

I didn't have a lot of time to prepare, but going over a few lists of typical questions that I found on this website helped me think of things that I wanted to mention. They don't ask you a lot of questions, but this is your chance to sell yourself as the best candidate, so you want to have examples of your uniqueness/strengths ready.

I hope that helps!

levoila, thank you so much for your advice!! that was really helpful! my interview is on wed. i hope i will be ready by then!!!again, thank you so much!

hi have you heard anything from csun??

I haven't heard anything. They said that they would let us know by snail mail within a few weeks. I think they said that they would be interviewing all this week and then meet to make a decision.

Do you remember the names of people that did the interviewing?
