Cal State Northridge CSUN Accelerated BSN Fall 2008

U.S.A. California

Published

I applied for CSUN's accelrated fall 2008 program and simply wanted to let others know I'm online to bounce ideas around.

It would be great to hear your stories going through the interviewing and acceptance process. Who knows, hopefully we'll even be classmates together this fall...

can someone tell me more about csun losing their accreditation?

thanks!

I never heard that statistic. I doubt it since I went to the info session this summer and they claimed they were certified...

I dropped off a set a transcripts yesterday and asked about the interviews. The person I spoke to said, "you can expect to hear from us in April." So I'm guessing that means hearing from them for interviews?? What about the people who will be starting in the Summer--isn't that cutting it rather close?

I just scheduled my interview for tomorrow. It will be a ten minute, individual interview before a panel of four people. OMG I'm nervous!

With the majority of the accelerated BSN programs out there, the minimum undergraduate gpa for acceptance is 3.0 regardless of how well you did in your nursing pre-requisite work. I applied to quite a few accelerated programs and the response after applcation was "Your undergraduate GPA disqualifies you from participation in this program." Good thing I applied to all the community college nursing programs at the same time so I had backup.

Don't just apply to accelerated programs, apply to the traditional RN programs at the community colleges. Sure they take longer, but the clinical experience you gain in a traditional program is so much better than what you'll receive in an accelerated program. And once you have your RN, you won't have any problems getting into any BSN or MSN program..

I believe Cal-State Fullerton has an entry level masters program, and so does Cal-State Long Beach.

This is great info.

I'm applying for Summer/Fall of 09, and I still have 3 of the major Science prereqs in progress (Chem/Micro/Physio). Is it even woth apploying now? Should I wait to have all my grades in before I apply?? Thanks!

I would advise you to wait until you have actual grades for your science pre-reqs. Reason I suggest this is because I took my nursing pre-reqs at Pierce College in Woodland Hills and it seemed like everyone in my pre-req science classes was gunning to get into CSUN's BSN program. But this is just my advice alone. Maybe someone else has better advice.

congrats !!! how did you find out that you were picked for an interview?

Does anyone know if they require an interview for an applicant out of town? I live in San Francisco?

Thanks! I received a call at 9:52 a.m. this morning. Good luck everyone!!

fyi- keep in mind that this program is accelerated so there is a lot that happens without a lot of notice. i have found that you really have to be flexible and go with the flow. it's still new so as you can imagine there are a lot of modifications still taking place. though most of us are type a personality, you really have to let that go a bit and go with it or you will drive yourself insane. it's a good program if you can get over the bumps and just be flexible.

in regards to accreditation, this is straight from the website:

* both the rn to bsn program and the a-bsn program are fully accredited by the collegiate commission for nursing education (

ccne) until 2014. this accreditation is accepted by graduate schools & federal agencies.

**the 15-month 2nd baccalaureate bsn is approved by the california board of registered nursing.

I sent in my application the day it was due and received my acceptance letter a month later, around the 15 of Feb or so.

Acceptance without an interview? Must have been a great application.
