CA RN on probation, BRN pending RN position

Published

I was recently placed on probation early this year and my RN position is pending approval. Per my probation officer, it will take up to 3 weeks or more. It's almost 3 months and she still states "it will take 3 weeks or more". It's frustrating because I feel like they lost my paperwork or something. Does anyone know how long it typically take for the BRN to approve RN position? I live in CA. Thank you

Thank you,

I'm just anxious and overwhelmed. I'm a single father and barely making ends meet. It's frustrating that we have to wait this long. They need to hire more staff. CA BRN has always been slow when it comes to paperwork

You can contact me if you need to talk to someone. I know the feeling I have been struggling so much financially. To the point, I thought I would lose my house. I do not have kids, and I can just imagine how you must feel.

Thank you,

It's so overwhelming and I'm trying to save as much as I can for the following months. I'm just hoping it's soon. I just take it one day at a time. Thank you again

Yes, regarding of all this, it will get better. I know is very hard. There were days that I felt so depressed. I never thought I would find myself in this position. I know is overwhelming especially because there is not much we can do to speed up the process. One tip well I used to email at least once a week, also email to schedule a phone call and keep asking I know you don't want to annoyed them, but they have a lot of nurses for each probation monitor. Just be polite. I think they can assign over 100 nurses to a  probation monitor, and if you keep insisting it may help them remember you. Even if they don't answer email so you can keep it for your records in case you need it later. I hopefully will start my new job soon. The last time I spoke to the monitor he said that they made some changes and are speeding up the approval process. Good luck!

Thank you,

Initially, I was emailing my probation monitor every week. Then every other week. She's still giving me the same answers. I hope they are speeding up the process. I just want to move on from this probation and get it done so I can move on with my life. Thank you again for giving me hope.

for anyone still waiting on BRN job approval:

have any of you considered applying for disability in meantime? CA is very liberal with disability and the max (no tax on it) is over $5,000 a month.

I have been in contact with MANY CA diversion/probation nurses and many of us have done this to minimize financial hardship (myself included).

Can get disability for up to a year (I did this). Nurse support groups should have info on which MD's are easy to obtain disability from and if anyone is in OC area I can provide insight.

Feel free to contact me for more info and best of luck. You will get through this. I did, .... and came out a much stronger, improved version of myself.

100%! I did this for a bit.

Hello, thank you for that information. How long did she have to wait after that error? How many additional weeks or months? I'm just afraid my progress will start at the bottom and have to wait another 3 months. I don't think I have enough for that.

Good morning, thank you for sharing this information. Would you be able to provide me more info regarding this?

Not sure what 'more info' means as that is very open ended. Ask me specific questions and I will give you specific answers ( if I know them.)

Hello Emma,
Thank you for sharing this information. I'm sure it would help many nurses. I wonder if it would cover nurses whose probation is unrelated to substances. In my case, I got in trouble for lying in an application to the BRN.

Hello, what I meant was how do I apply or what website is it? Thank you

Go to a nurse support group to find MDs who are known to provide disability

can get it for anxiety, depression, etc
