CA BRN New Requirements For NCLEX RN international students

World Registration

Published

I had already registered online in Pearson Vue but I think I'm not yet eligible to take the test. Is there an expiration date for my registration at PV?

I received a letter from CA BON requesting for new requirements such as:

  1. SS number
  2. Local license in the Philippines
  3. Copy of ur clinical rotation schedule for your cases: Assisted/Actual deliveries, cord dressing, and major/minor surgeries
  4. A complete school curriculum hundred pages or more sent directly from ur nursing school to the board. (the board doesn't accept the condensed version of the curriculum
  5. A one-page curriculum outline and academic calendar.

Fortunately, I had the first 2 requirements but I am worried that the last 3 will take time to be accomplished.

I am wondering if it's just me who have this requirement. Most of NCLEX passers I know weren't required on those listed above. It's really hard to focus on review while your thinking of this :uhoh3:

Ony those states that have explicit education requirements of concurrent theory and practicum will Philippine nurses have licensure issues.

Excellsior College New York nursing graduates have had same issue recently. See state board licensure requirements here

These are states having concerns over concurrent therory and practicum, so I would look at other 37 states to obtain license:

Alabama

Arizona

California

Georgia

Illinois

Kansas

Louisiana

Maryland

North Dakota

Oklahoma

Vermont

Virginia

Washington

It looks that some have responded to the "online" schooling and clinical application and the clinical competence and practicum experience of these graduates. Interesting.

I was only aware of California, Vermont, New York, and Georgia. I never thought Washington would be one of them. Is it Washington D.C. or Washington State. Currently applying for Nevada heard of a Physical Assessment course but the state said it would depend on the situation of the student.

I would also like to know what state and when did you apply for your exam.

maybe thats why you got your eligibility because you filed your application prior to the new requirements that they are asking.so lucky of you...:)

Congrats to you and passing it the first time! Yep, you made it under the deadline month and year!

But I think had you not passed the exam the 1st time and had to re-apply as several others did, there was a very good chance that your re-application would have been denied. I think if you know of others in your batch that failed the exam, would have been denied due to the re-application, then, yes, you're very lucky!

As far as I can see here in these threads, no one was able to get their ATT upon a re-application, as NO Phil college to my knowledge has ever met the CA BON requirements.

So YES, in short, you are very very blessed and got thru. Good for you!! Nice to hear of a success story with all the negatives we're facing today.

Let's just hope that upon the second renewal process, CA BON does not start to re-exam the transcripts again as some have mentioned and then, you're faced with possible license issues, such as non-renewal or on a temporary basis for a time period to re-take any deficient classes.

Now you're a USRN for real and hopefully working as one! Yea!!!

This looks really bleak for all future PH applicants. All PH RNs still having plans for the US must look at this post and understand the doors slamming shut. This is the end.

Hi, Just want to clarify something about the logbook because I just recently applied for the exam. BRN also requires me the cases, I am really having a hard time on it specially on concurrency issue about the duty and lecture dates. So, I'm thinking about following your method, since, fortunately our school also requires us to document (logbook) our duties. Do you think is it possible?

Reading the trend today, more and more local RN were experiencing rejection from CA BRN, since because of the concurrency issue and strict policy.

If you may, what is the exact list of documents that your school mailed to the BRN?

Also, If you allow, what school did you attend to??

Appreciate your response. Thank you
